Asked before? Maybe. If so, sorry to waste your time. Anyway, this is the first time I have seen this.
I am not normally a DE zapper, but I have done it a few times. I zapped today and a cloud of bats flew up around the tank. Is this a Halloween thing or is this some new DE protection thing?

READ my original post and you would notice where I said, 'I am not normally a DE zapper, but I have done it a few times.' If I were a regular zapper, don't you think I would have noticed the bats much earlier?
Anyway, I'm not going to defend it. I zapped. I'll probably zap again. If you are unhappy with my actions then you are more then welcome to remove CoC from your device and continue on with your lives.

Yea, it's a new DE protection. The amount you do it just mounts up then is taken from your own DE storage with a time delay as it's stolen from the bats of the night. Good idea.
