You must be mature. 18+ years old is the required age. We don't care what level you are if you are 18 and over.

14 to 17 year olds: We will accept 14 to 17 year olds who can demonstrate maturity. As a demonstratiom of maturity we ask 14 to 17 year olds to post in our Thunderbears thread and write at least 100 words about why they want to join us.

Here is the deal. These are the basic rules.

Donate archers only.
Donate at least 50 troops per week.
No swearing.
Be nice.

Here are the advanced rules.

New Recruits.

We make sure that are members are mature, active and reliable. That way we can all have fun and enjoy the game. So we screen people when they join. So new recruits need to pay special attention to the chat when they join because we will ask you questions, see if you chat and donate to others. If new recruits ignore the elders or leader then they will very quickly kicked. If we see new recruits ignore donation requests and keep asking for troops then likewise, they will soon be kicked.

We also have a key question that we may ask new recruits to answer. If they don't answer correctly then we know they have not read our rules in this forum. We are Vikings. We worship a God called THOR.

It takes only one elder who is doing the screening to kick a new recruit.

No clan hopping.

People who leave our clan without permission and will not be welcome back. It is only polite and fair to ask the Leader first. You may ask to transfer to one of our sister clans (Icebears and Riverbears), but you must remain in the clan for at least a week and ask the leader first. There are very good reasons why we have this rule. If the leader is not on line, then ask again later on. Jumping around our clans without asking first will most likely end in you getting kicked and banned.

It takes three elders or the leader to kick a clan hopper.

Do not ask for Elder.

It is our experience that anyone who asks for elder is usually the worst possible elder to have. So we have a rule against it.

It takes only one elder or the leader to kick a person for asking for elder.

Check the chat.

Every time someone makes a request for troops or posts a message in chat, the chat window gets a red icon. If people are not opening the chat window to check then they are deliberately ignoring any donation requests that are in chat.

If people don't check the chat then how can they possibly see your clan mates asking for troops? To make sure that our members are checking the chat we sometimes will greet you and ask you questions. If you don't respond then its obvious that you are not checking the chat. That means you are also not seeing donation requests from your clan mates. To stop this type of selfish behavior we will kick members who constantly and repeatedly ignore the elders and leader.

It takes three elders to kick a member for ignoring the chat.

Donation Hanging

Donation Hanging is where a player comes in and makes a donation request but obviously ignores any outstanding donation requests in the chat. In other words they can not be bothered to check the chat and give troops, but they somehow expect everyone to give troops to them. We don't want players like this. If a player leaves donations hanging in the chat and asks for troops they will be warned and then kicked if they do not respond or change their behavior.

It takes three elders or the leader to kick a member for donation hanging.

Behavior

We are an adult clan for people aged 18+. However we will accept younger players 14 to 17 who demonstrate a mature and responsible attitude. A persons age doesn't really matter so much so long as they like good clean fun and can participate in our clan in a mature manner, so that is why we are flexible in this respect. However if a person demonstrates that they are obviously under age or can not behave in a mature manner, they may be kicked.

Behavior also includes things like showing respect and not putting anyone down. We expect people to give help, advice and friendship freely. Antagonizing others, being rude and disrespectful will result in the person being kicked.

It takes three elders to kick a member for breaking behavior rules.

Enforcement of rules.

Normally it takes the agreement of three elders to enforce the rules and kick a member. This is to prevent any member being kicked unfairly. In these cases the Leader counts as an elder.

Obscene or deliberately offensive language requires only one elder to kick.

Incorrect troop donations requires three elders or the leader to kick.

The leader normally kicks people who do not donate at least 50 troops per week at the end of the week, according to the recommendations provided by the Guardian.

SCREENING OF NEW RECRUITS

This is our screening process that we use to ensure that new recruits are suitable for our clan.

1) RESPONSE

If the new recruit does not say anything when they join we give them three minutes to respond. For example we say "Player XYZ, you have three minutes to respond". If there is no response after that time they are immediately kicked. We are not going to waste our time on people who do not have the common courtesy to greet us when they join.

2) AGE

When a new recruits joins we ask them their age. Anyone who is 18 and over is accepted. Teenagers between 14 and 18 may be accepted if they demonstrate maturity and are over level 30. We draw the line there. No one under 14 is accepted. We try to encourage under age players to leave by themselves, even give them some troops to take with them, but if they refuse to leave then we kick them.

3) RULES

The next question we ask is if they know our rules. If they say they do because they have read them on the forum then we ask the key question. "who do we worship". If they can not answer that question correctly with "Thor" then we ask them to read the rules again and give us the correct answer. If they can not do this then they are kicked if they are suspected of outright lying, or told the rules in chat if we suspect they may have English as a second language.

If they have not read the forum, then we give them the most basic rules: Donate only archers, 50 donations per week, do not ask for elder, check chat for donations.

After that, welcome the new member "Welcome to Thunderbears!"

Sometimes members will stall and respond to the questions in a vague or even aggressive manner. For people who stall, remind them they may leave the clan if they don't want to answer our questions, and then kick them if they remain obstinate. For those fortunately rare instances where players respond aggressively, e.g. by saying "None of your business", kick them immediately.

Why do we have this screening process?

Simply to ensure that the people in our clan are mature solid reliable people who enjoy having good clean fun.

This is the fifth clan we have founded. In that time we have found there to be unfortunately many people who simply like to be selfish, abusive and immature. We try our best to keep these sorts of people out of our clan. So we have some rules that we expect people to follow because they benefit everyone, and we screen people to try and ensure that the people who join our clans can follow these rules.

Members Rights

Once you are accepted as a member you have certain rights.

1) The right to enjoy the game environment free from harassment. This will be upheld by having immature and aggressive people removed from the clan.

2) The right to remain in the clan. We do not kick members if they follow the rules. That means you will not be kicked out because someone wants their friend to join and we have run out of room. You will not be kicked out because you only have low level archers to donate. You will not be kicked out because your trophy count is low. Etc.

3) The right to vote in clan decisions. To vote in clan decision you must vote on this thread. All decisions are subject to the "Deadman's hand policy", which means 50% or more members must vote against a proposal, otherwise it passes.

4) The right to ask for sleeper status. Once you have been in the clan for a while you may ask for "sleeper status" for up to four weeks. That means you will not be expected to meet the donation requirements. People sometimes need to ask for sleeper status when they know they will be inactive for a while. To ask you must post your request for sleeper status here in this thread.

Responsibilities
As a member of Thunderbears you have certain responsibilities.

1) To willingly and freely give full troops donations to all those who ask who are not breaking the rules.

2) To willingly move to another Bear clan when asked by the Leader or an Elder.

We are part of the Imperial Bear Empire. This is a group of clans with the same prinicples and values: Riverbear, Icebears and Thunderbears, Each clan helps each other out at times. Sometimes we need more members in one clan than we do in another. Sometimes we make a new clan, with every clan contributing a few members to get it started. When we do this we need members who will respond immediately to the needs of the Empire.

For that reason we need members who share the idea of helping each other out in times of need. We need members who are committed to the idea of gradually expanding our Empire of clans. Through this we become very strong and very flexible. We have different clans that serve different purposes. We can them offer our members a safe and enjoyable environment depending on their own individual goals and available time.

The Imperial Bear Empire

Thunderbears is part of the Imperial Bear Empire. This is a group of clans who all share the same basic values. At the head of this Empire is one leader, who is called "The Big Moo".

The basic values are:

1) Respect for all members.
2) To help and assist all members.
3) Never to tolerate bad behaviour such as swearing, racism, sexist, arrogant and rude behaviour.

The word Imperial means we are continuously expanding. We find that we tend to keep our members and that we keep getting more members joining. We have strict rules that we enforce, but we do so fairly and justly. That means our members can enjoy their gaming experience free from disruption caused by rude, intolerant and selfish people. As a result we continue to grow.

To belong to the Imperial Bear Empire a clan is expected to:

1) Be in a state of continual recruitment, by open and invite only.
2) To only close the clan to recruitment when screening new recruits.
3) To participate in clan reinforcement.
4) To participate in new clan formation.

This is how it works.

As clan approaches capacity (45+ members) the Big Moo, the Leader or Guardian surveys the other clans of the Empire. If any clan of the Empire is under 40 members then recent recruits are directed there. This is called clan reinforcement.

When all clans stand above 40 members we then "swarm". A swarm is when a new Bear clan is formed. Each clan is then immediately obliged to contribute between 3 to 5 members to the new clan, including one elder. With five clans we can expect the new clan to be immediately filled with at least 15 to 25 members, all of who will be familiar with our rules and our way of doing things and at least five experienced elders.

Experience has shown us that the presence of a substantial number of existing bear members in a new clan, along with experienced elders contributes mightily to the success of the new clan. The new clan will then carry out its own recruitment.

The term of service in the new clan is at least one week, at maximum two weeks. After that members can return back to their home clans. In the meantime the original clans will carry on, business as usual. Sufficient room should be reserved in each clan to accommodate returning members. That means the moment each clan hits 45, they should then send new recruits to the new clan.

If the new recruits refuse to move, kick them. We are an Imperial Empire. We have no time for insular people.

The fundamental premise is that members are obligated to move if necessary. Of course we shall ask for volunteers first, but in lieu of sufficient volunteers then each and every member and elder carries the duty of participating in Empire building. Refusal to fulfil this duty to help us expand and help each other is grounds for being removed. Do not join our Imperial Empire unless you are willing to serve.

Ummm, why is the Imperial Leader called "The Big Moo"?

When we close any clan business we signal the end by going "Moo!", as is the tradition. It is only fitting that the leader of all Imperial clans be called a Big Moo, because his or her Moo shall be be the biggest Moo! It all makes perfect sense once you have drunk enough mead.

Political Structure.

Most of you will be familiar with the terms leader and elder. However the Imperial Bear Empire has several other ranks. These other ranks are not part of the game, but help to ensure our group of clans function efficiently and work as a team.

The Big Moo

This is the highest position. This is an elected position. The position of the Big Moo is re-elected every month at the end of the month. The Big Moo is responsible for:

1) Determining the allocation of members from each clan in times of new clan creation and in times when an imbalance of numbers in clans requires members to shift.

2) Creating policies and procedures that ensure the Bear clans work together as a unified whole.

Guardian

This is the second equal highest position. This position is offered by the Big Moo to members who are willing to accept it. The position of Guardian is permanent. Each bear clan has one Guardian. The Guardian is responsible for

1) The administrative duties of their clan. This includes detailing information for the Leader with respect to donation counts.

2) Proposing changes to existing clan rules and overseeing the voting on such proposals.

3) Enforcing the directives of the Big Moo.

4) Advising the Leader.

Leader

This is the second highest position. Leaders are chosen by Guardians. Each clan has one Leader. The position of Leader changes every two weeks. The Leader is responsible for the following:

1) Enforcing the rules of the clan as an Elder.

2) Promoting members who fulfil the requirements of Eldership

3) Changing the entry requirements for their clan to allow recruitment or to close recruitment.

4) Enforcing the directives of the Big Moo.

5) Kicking members who do not meet donation standards.

Sergeant at Arms

This is the third highest position. Sergeants at Arms (SAA) are ex-leaders of bear clans, ex-Guardians, and any member who has made an outstanding contribution to the the Bear Empire, be it recruitment, marketing or artistic expression. The position of SAA is permanent. SAAs are responsible for the following

1) Voting on the Imperial Council.

2) Assuming leadership of a clan at any time at the request of the Leader.

Elder

This is the fourth highest position. Elders are nominated by Leaders and must be approved by Guardians. The position of Elder is permanent providing the Elder continues to meet Elder responsibilities. Elders are responsible for

1) Screening new recruits

2) Enforcing the rules.

Where a member has broken a rule usually three elders are required to agree to kick the member. This is to ensure the member is kicked fairly and with good reason. However there are two significant exceptions. Only one elder is required to kick a member for using obscene or deliberately offensive language. Only one elder is required to kick a member who asks for Eldership.

The Imperial Council

The Imperial Council is made up of the following

The Big Moo, Guardians and Leaders and SAAs.

The purpose of the council is to discuss and vote on matters that:

1) Affect all the clans
2) Affect the creation of new clans
3) Affect nonbear clans within the Empire.
4) Elect the Big Moo.

Election of the Big Moo.

The Big Moo is elected on a monthly basis at the end of each month.

All members of the council may submit names for election.

Each Guardian vote carries a weight of 3
Each Leader vote carries a weight of 2
Each SAA vote carries a weight of 1

In the case of a tied vote, voting will be repeated three times until the tie is broken. If the tie is not broken then the existing Big Moo will continue in the role for another month.

Proposals

Any member of the council may introduce a proposal.

The Big Moo may veto any proposal.

In voting on proposals the following weighting applies.

The Big Moo's vote carries a weight of 5
Each Guardian vote carries a weight of 3
Each Leader vote carries a weight of 2
Each SAA vote carries a weight of 1
