I got much of my DE from clan war, and did not spend any of it. My bases are farming with the DE storage being the most protected thing. If you are farming DE, then that is all you worry about, anything else in bonus. I used 12 giants, 1 healer, 6 wallbreakers and I barched the rest. Goblins always seemed to die from one mortar shot. It is not like you are going to get it fast, but it will move up.
I did not try it but, and maybe someone else can speak to it, but a friend of a friend TH sniped his way to crystal. That may be a way to go.

if you are so desperate to get a Barb king, then my only advice is to save up gems. Barb kings cost roughly 600 gems.
you can get 450 at 1250 trophies, and wait for a few gem boxes to show up
You can also try to reach the crystal league, which'll give you 250 gems i think, I have seen it done before
I'm not giving you this advice because I'm a th9 who is fed up of folk using lighting spells on my DE storage btw :)
This is just what I've seen some people do
Why don't you want to use the lightning spells? If you care about your trophies you can still use lightning spells and try to get at least 50%
Go relatively high in your trophy count (1800+ or so)
Find empty drills or outer storages and raid if you can get 1000 dark elixer or more
Use quick troops like Barbarians Archers and Minions
Spend you dark elixer on upgrades as quickly as possible.
Just come here n u will find half or full filled de maxed pumps just take em got hogs to lvl 3 n barb king to lvl 9 upgrading currently.
Go to crystal league and use barch 2 barracks full of barbarians and the other 2 with archers, it is wise to bring 3 lightning spells, they have got me thousands of dark elixir.Look for dark elixir drills easy to reach with barch, or storages.
By the way I maxed my barbarian king and dark troops at th7, it's worth it.
you need to get to Cry 3 (TH snipe your way there, it shouldn't take too long). Make sure you have a lot of gold available for searching by the time you get to Cry 3. Gold is a lot harder to raid.
Since most people put DE Drills near the edge of the base layout, it's the prime target to raid for DE. Get familiar with how the different level of DE Drills look (higher level drills hold more). Also if you zoom in, you'll see a glass cube shaped container on top of the drill. You can tell if it's half or completely full depending on how high the DE is in that container. If you find a TH 10 with 3 higher level DE drills near the edge of the base that haven't been collected in a while, you can score big. Plus, since the drills are on the edge of the base you don't have to use huge armies to steal it which will allow you to raid/search for DE more often. Of course you'll lose trophies doing this so you'll need to snipe any exposed TH you see to help keep trophy count up. Every winning attack in Cry 3 also gives you 50 DE which can add up over multiple snipes.

I farmed my Barbarian King,Minions upgrade in 8hours I spend 4 hours for 10000 DE. I was using archers, sniping THs and destroying drills. Hope it helped you.
LOL... when you zap it you usually only get 25% of the DE. Besides, they cost so much time to cook up. NO ONE should really care too much about trophies. I'm finding a lot of rushed Town Hall 10s at around lower Silver I with bad bases so I can usually get the DE with Barch and a few breakers (usually 10) mixed in. 10 DE raids and I'm at 4,000 already... not counting all the DE I lost from noobs zapping my DE.Quote:
