I have heard all the so called "remedies" for this problem and it doesn't do any good. Let's review the suggestions:
Revenge them - Nice idea, in theory. Unfortunately it is difficult and requires a miracle of timing to find
the offender without a shield and when they're not online. And maybe I just have bad luck here, but immediately after being zapped, I return to find that they have no de left but their barbarian king is undergoing an upgrade. So if I revenge them, I spend a gob of elixir and/or dark elixir to 3 star them. My reward for which is nothing because they have no loot, but they get a nice 16 hour shield out of it. And if they're a higher level than me I can lightening them back. My reward for which is nothing since they have no de left, and I just spent a lot on spells for nothing and give them a bunch of trophies. Either way, I lose.
Go to the Masters league - Supposedly this practice doesn't happen at the elite levels, just down in the sewers where those of us who can't spend 90% of their time playing games and don't have the luxury of a maxed out town hall 10 reside. I think my description alone describes the issue with this practice.
Leave you town hall outside - I do. And this hasn't deterred anyone. It still happens on 9 out of 10 attacks when my storage is more than 25% full. I just get a shield out of it when they have the courtesy to snipe my town hall also.
Don't keep a lot of dark elixir in your storage - Do I even need to point out what a useless suggestion this is? How are you supposed to upgrade/research anything?
None of these have any impact and/or are impractical for many people. So in summary my options are to bend over and grab my ankles, or... no wait that's the only option. Perhaps the reason that there is so much "whining" going on about this issue is because it is a genuine issue. We are the customers here, and Super Cell should listen to their customers or they will start losing business. It would not be difficult to simply make the dark elixir storage immune to lightening (or at least so resistant as to make it pointless to attack it solely with spells). Nothing else in the game has to change. But this practice of lazy punks exploiting (what I would hope to be) an unintended loophole and offending the rest of the legitimate players would disappear.
