I hired Tom on 11/10/14 at around 10am and used him a couple of times, just after midnight on 12/10/14 I logged on to use Tom again and he had gone and it was asking me to rehire him. Surely this isn't right he only lasted about 14-15 hours 😡

None of the folks here can help you unfortunately, but what you probably should do is use the in game reporting system to send in a trouble ticket. That puts all your game info into a special email that supercell can read and look up what happened. Please be patient though, they have a huge backlog of people with problems so it might take a while, but they will get back to you. Also don't send in multiple requests because that just makes it take longer. Good luck. It's possible that a server was worked on and it didn't save your information. They will eventually be able to help
Did you send in a ticket through the in-game settings? That's the best advice at this point.

Tap on the cog wheel in the game (upper left). Tap on settings...then help and feedback....then report an issue.
I think that's the path. I don't have my device in front of me at the moment but it should be very close to that path.
that happened to me as well.. after 14 hours..
I lodged a ticket and got a reply 36 hours later. SC compensated me with some diamonds for the lost time..
They are investigating.. i hope!
