I wonder how much of this loot "problem" is real. Think about this - there are a ton of people who last only a couple weeks in this game then quit (then their base becomes idle). Then some people quit after a couple months of playing. Then some people quit after a few months. Overall, the availability of idle bases decreases at higher THs and leagues.
In other words, when you are a low TH, there are idle bases everywhere. But as you progress in the game, there are simply less and less idle bases, because the proportion of people who make it to TH8 and quit is a lot lower than the proportion who make it to TH6 and quit. The higher you go, the higher the proportion of serious players vs quitters.
Therefore, when people say, "loot was so much easier to get 3 months ago." My response is, "Yeah, you were a TH6 back then in bronze league, now you're a TH8 in Gold I. No duh."
BUT - I think that buying walls with elixir has made the "problem" worse. I *rarely* keep much loot in my storage, so I'm definitely contributing to the problem. I keep a builder free, loot in one online session until I have enough to build something, then dump excess in walls. I'm never offline with more than a couple hundred k in my storage. Before the wall update, my storages regularly exceeded 1M when I was offline.
