Is your clan dying? Share your experiences.

Hi there guys.

I've had quite a ride with my fellow clan mates for the past 1,5-2 years. I left my previous clan due to disagreements with the leaders and created my own. The beginning was rough. It was extremely hard to find members, especially for the reason that I was looking for members from Finland and required the players to be mature. Well, eventually we started getting a few members and once we got like 10 members, we suddenly started getting loads of new members. Don't know how, but we were lucky. There were times the clan was full with 50 members, but as expected, some players just quit and leave the game. Some disagreed with our rules, some were plain trolls or kids.

Well, now after this long journey the guild is collapsing. We divided into two guilds, farm guild and the main guild. The reason for this is that the inactive players made us constantly lose wars. Too bad we couldn't just mark them "inactive", I was hoping for such update. Never happened. Well, now we are 19 members left on the main guild and 15 on the farm guild.

My problem is, I don't know how to fix things anymore. I cannot get us together, I cannot make the inactive members play and I cannot find new members. I'm afraid this is the end of our great, fun journey.

Do you have any similar experience or advice for me?

I have been trying to start a clan for a few months and it is very difficult. We've had some decent ones and gotten up to 45 members all silver - crystal league. But eventually things will collapse if you aren't always keeping track of who's active, who's donating, who attacks in war, who is probably just a troll/hopper, etc etc

In short, it's a lot of work!! It will wear out even the most energetic people who have a lot of time on their hands to game.

Given my experience, unless you start with a band of high level players who have been playing together awhile, its very difficult. The problem for me isn't the members. It's getting reliable coleaders!! If I could duplicate myself into 4 individuals I would. I meet people all the time who says "I wanna start a clan." They meet with me in kik, and we discuss things to get started. Then 48-72 hours after clan creation, they already are getting into a comfortable cruise...............WRONG.

Clans require the leadership to have their foot on the gas pedal all the time!! Only once a clan is VERY established can you relax a bit. So you really need 4 leaders (1 lead, 3 coleads) who are ONLINE ALOT & who are VERY motivated to working tirelessly like they are trying to start a business.

That is the only way.

Yeah my clan is falling apart but now I'm trying to rebuild.

Had to hop clans a couple times due to the clan slowly dying. currently in a new small clan whom have 76 war wins (18 members) and leaders not keen to accept new members. Getting boring ... hope this clan doesnt die as well

I am starting to wonder if my clan is dying.

Just two months ago we had 47 members, we had won 6 wars in a row, and a bunch of us were pushing in masters. We were into the top 3500 clans, and high level players were begging to join.

Today we have 29 members, having lost about half of our higher levels, including a number of long term members.

Our clan is just about a year old. Our leader and founder was the th10 with a bunch of scrubs. I joined at lvl 17 with my account, scumstomper. We were a high donating from the beginning.

In January, we were filling up and decided to start a feeder clan. We set the bar at level 40 and requested that our lower level players drop down. This created some internal struggles and only 3 members came down, but we lost about 15 others.

Doing this proved successful.....the feeder eventually promoted 10 or so to the main clan. Some are still with us. We also were able to recruit 40+ folks to the main. We grew and had success.

Clan wars proved good but disruptive. Kicking long term but inactive players is hard. Kicking loyal members that can't attack is hard.

So, we complain about bad war matchups, but the truth is we have members that are not learning or progressing.

So, the TL;DR version is our clan is regressing, if not dying, because we don't have a clear purpose or vision outside of loyalty and donating. We should kick the th10s that can not even win one star versus a th8, but we do not......

About the only thing keeping me here is that a worry it will completely collapse if I take my two accounts and leave. I suspect that I could take the five best and most active and start a new clan and we would be fine.

Or I could just give up leadership and join a th10 clan and sit at the bottom with little stress.....

In every team/project/group/etc, there will always be those who ask "What's in it for us?" and those who say "I've got nothing to lose." For Clan War, I've managed to make a few policies that will identify these annoyances.

War Policies:
- Succeed before Greed. Greed will be the root of your clan's failure.
- Get 3 stars in 1st attack and you can do whatever with 2nd attack(e.g. loot/practice, give credit where credit is due)
- Get less than 3 stars in 1st attack and looting in 2nd attack = automatic kick for greediness
- Get all 3 stars for 2 straight wars = automatic promotion(give credit where credit is due)
- Get all 1 or 0 stars = automatic demotion (same goes for inactive)
- Get all 1 or 0 stars for 2 straight wars = dead weight, slow learner, automatic kick (same goes for inactive)
- Attack only within 3 ranks lower than yours (if you're #3, attack from #3 to #6 only)
- Only specialists get to attack higher ranks.
- Everyone must use up their 1st attack.

Troop Request Policy:
- Observe GOLDEN RULE.
- Try to balance the requested and donated troops.
- ASK ONLY WHAT YOU CAN AND ARE WILLING TO GIVE.
(Asking for lvl6 archers when you only have lvl4 archers to offer is a no no. Proper way is to ask for lvl4+ archers)
- Clan War is the only exemption. ASK FOR ANYTHING.

Tips to keep your clan active:
- Be brave enough to kick inactive members no matter who. They can always come back when they're active again.
- Don't fill your clan with too much friends of friends of friends. You're not a day care center.
- Remind them that this is all for the good of the clan. Having poor performances will affect war and loot.

Tips for Leaders:
- Listen to your good clan members.
- Learn to tell whether they want to have Clan War or not. Sometimes they're tired too.


All this is based on the penalty/reward system.

It may seem harsh, but they can always return when they have more time to play. Attacking requires 15-30 minutes every other day. If some of your members cannot do that, then maybe have them go to your farming clan that split off.

It's like changing the oil on your car. If you don't clean out the crud, then you will start to have a lot more problems causing catastrophic damage if completely neglected.

Maintenance is very important. You need to do it.

We used to be a proud war-winning clan with a full feeder clan and great donations and fun members...endlessly active...Our clan has survived 2 situations where one of the co-leaders kicked all the elders and members, we quickly rebuilt, but after our 2nd one, we've only retrieved half of our best members and we aren't as good in clan wars as we used to be. We've finally had a 2-win war streak and now working on our third....Even my co's aren't as confident and supprtive anymore :( I might just disband the clan and join someone else...

Keeping a clan going is hard. Partly because it involves management of people. To be successful in war u need to keep only the best players and kick the bad ones, regardless of situations but that is hard. What u can do is kick for war, then reinvite.

We have a few good players leave our clan too and is looking for good war attackers/ players to manage. If u prefer to start from somewhere, join War Starz! We have about 8 good members and usually take low levels or new ones just to fill up slots for 15v15. We tried mergers but it never happened. If u can bring a few good players over it might be better to start here than a brand new clan. We really need help for people to manage the clan too. It's not an easy task. Every bit of real help counts. We have rotated leaders more than 5 times as no one actually wants to lead the clan but are supportive as players. We have a 10 wins to a loss for war record, on average. Which is not too bad.

My one clan had a similar story and when I got the the point you're at I just abandoned ship. Now I'm at it again starting a new clan and I'm facing the fear it might be DOA. Running a clan is no east feat. I hope the success stories arent so few and far between though

We need valuable players. It's a small clan but it's expanding. Come to chat at least

So why kick the loyal members all of a sudden? The story from a member perspective.

Recently I got kicked from a clan where I felt at home for about a year long. I have been one of the first members there since september 2013. They kicked me due to "poor tactics". Out of nowhere without any warning

I was quite active: 1:2 donate ratio, participated accordingly with wars and even a chat once a while.
But I was not that active that I could cope with the latest push, just missing masters by 50 trophies. I also didn't go with the mainstream offensive strategies, I tried them and liked some. But I like the diversity of this game.

This kick made me think about things:
> Why did I start playing Clash of clans, or any game at all? (To have fun / entertainment after work hours, Strategy games I like. This can be done in betweens; During travel, while watching TV, in breaks, a lot of pros!)
> Why did I join this clan? (Adults, relaxed, always troops in the CC, not much obligations and can talk about the game with like minded)
> Do I really need a clan? (Don't think so, but makes the game play as it should be? Always extra troops is handy, but not necessary. Someone to talk to if you have a question about the game.)

After consideration I started my own clan now, which is really hard to fill as Storyteller said. But others might not want to get in a clan anymore because the answers to the questions above are different. There are more cons then pros.

If you look at all those recruitment threads out there, there arent many clans that have vacancies open for relaxed gameplay. We all have to be active, donate and PERFORM. Relaxing is a no no.
A lot of players, like me, found a relaxed clan in the beginning, which changed their attitude while the grew bigger. I think thats why I got kicked, because I am still in for some casual gaming and not changing my mind with the clan's. This is also the reason for some clans to bleed out. Not only for having just "inactive" players, but because the clan itself got more active and changed their mission statement causing core member to not fit in anymore.
I think this is what is happening to Clans like storyteller's clan or my previous clan. It is something to think about as a leader: members might not want to follow you to the destination you picked. You have to consider what might happen to your clan.

Yeah, it would be great if SC finally fixed the biggest clan management issue and made it so leaders can choose who is going to war. An OptOut button would have made a tremendous difference for my clan.

As far as dying clans go, it's hard to keep them going. The people I founded my clan with hardly play anymore. I've since promoted some longtime members to coleader to make up for it, and we aren't dying, but we aren't growing much either. Plus every noob that hits gold league wants to start a clan and spam up global, which makes so many partly full clans that are always in flux with hoppers and new players that decide Clash isn't for them. Between too many clans in general, and hopper mentality, there is only so much that can be done.

Keep communicating with people and being cool and you'll pick up a few more people as you go.

We're coming back! I got some great and awesome members! We've finally had a 2-streak wins in war! (And yes, i'm proud of that:p) We've lost our recent one by only 2 stars but now we're more active and donating more than before! I love my clanmates :o You can join if ya want, lvl 45+ only though, currently working to revive our feeder now :D

Same here. I literally built our clan as a Co since leader was never on but they kicked me. Now we are building our new clan. Join us : )

BITTER RIVALS

Yeah, in our clan wars we would get high 80s in our stars. Now we are getting barely 20. Im thinking of starting a new clan. The last two wars were a mess! Ill give it one last chance. If I dont get to 70+ stars this war, then im gonna just take the loyal members with me and make a new clan. Thats what you should do. If you have a couple of loyal members. (i got like 12 now) take them with you to your new clan. This will make people want to join more. Like i said, people have school and the last few wars were on the weekdays. So hopefully we can score 70+! If it fails the clan will be called Golden X Bow but im not sure yet. If you want to join clashtunes, go ahead!

When my farmers get too quiet, I grab a noob from global and help them farm. Repetition ruins excitement, but drop max troops on the weakest chief in your global and watch them light up your clan chat.
