Are ring bases overrated? I feel they've had their day; they are easy to spot and easy to defeat. Either attack with non defence orientated troops or break the ring in two places.
Similarly with funnelling with walls on the outside of the base. Too easy to spot and and defeat by using wb's to smash through at the closed end of the funnel.
I've had really good results with ring bases in clan wars, but not so much as a regular base. I think when you have a incredibly wide pool of potential attackers the chances of someone coming along who knows how to break your ring and rob you blind increase dramatically over a clan war where you have a maximum of 50 people with only a fraction of those even being in a position to attack you.
As far as funneling goes, it's rare to find an attacker these days who doesn't use wall breakers to negate outer funneling. So I think that's a waste now. Internal funneling, and really that's just placing traps between two defenses is still a solid idea.
I agree with you about ring bases, I'm surprised anyone still uses them. But I have to disagree with you on funnelling. As you point out, everyone avoids walking into those looooong funnels so their attack location is predictable.
