Just build a strong army with giants instead of barbarians and wizards instead of archers and raid the weaker th8s. Most of them have dark elixir and many not in the center. Go for the storages. I did it very easy but this was during the wizard event and I have a second account at th9 so I have more experience but you really do not have to zap.
P.S. I made enough elixir loot to cover my troop costs too. Zapping is only expensive and will get you revenges.
Got to crystal 3 as others have mentioned. You get 50 DE for a win, so TH snipe up in trophies, then find a TH9 or 10 with high level drills that are full and take them out, if you do not get 50% dont worry about it. If you find a base with lots in the storage zap it. Usually there are a few drills outside that you can grab after you take the TH for a few hundred DE. Also since you are lower level no one raids you and your TH will get sniped for a free shield. If you want to get brave there are plenty of premie TH8s that you could GiBarch to 50% and get some DE.
I was able to get my BK to lvl 5, (upgrading right now) in just over a week spending 2 hours a night. Now working on getting DE for Dark Barracks upgrades.
