Th9s. How long did you stick with Ringus farming design?

Hello folks. Im what most would consider a mid th9 i think. I'm starting to get "beat up" by th10s and some advanced 9s and am thinking about transitioning away from Ringus. I guess i should tell you what I've upgraded to. Ive got mostly skulls with some legos, maxed wizard towers, teslas, two maxed AD, maxed mortars, and cannons/archer towers one level from max. Am I at the point, I should move away from Ringus, or is Ringus appropriate for my defensive levels? I move between gold 2 and crystal 2. Thanks for the help.

ps...my xbows are level 2 as well

Its been 3 months for me and I plan to stick to it for some more time. I stay in Gold III though :p

Yeah, you can try that. Actually I have been to all leagues, in some leagues loots were dry, in others I was thrashed by might TH10's. Finally, G3 seemed to work for me w.r.t. loots and defense. So, I planed to stay here. But this is just my point of view. This might or might not work for others. You have to always keep on experimenting and figure out which one works best for you.. :)

I used Ringus for awhile and loved it. Only reason I changed was to see how my current base would hold up. Anyone that needs a base I reccomend Ringus for TH9

Imho ringus has always been good only against mass hogs…with this base you can loose 2 elixir and 2 gold sot rages too easily. Now hogs are disappeared…i suggest you to try a normal farming base and rely on your strong fire power

Lets face it, the ringus may be "good" but too many people know how to destroy it. I know where all the traps, teslas, and air bombs are and I know the exact point to lure cc and attack from. Its better if you make your own.

I'm almost maxed TH9 (3 cannons and some small bombs left) and ringus is still holding for me in gold 1 - crystal 3

I'm a mid level th9 and I've gone through a half dozen different base designs but keep coming back to ringus. I'll be using it till th10.

The whole time I've been th9, Ive used the originator by Vinnyxo, It has served me well and with a few changes of walls you can make it into 4 places where dgb could be instead of 2 in the original design. Though I have not changed it for good, through experiment I have, and I will be first to say through original design any hog attacker that knows what they're doing can steal a pretty decent amount of loot with hogs/heroes but overall it had served me well. I haven't tried Ringus out though it looks like a great base.

I've used ringus for months and probably will keep it to th10. The only army that will jack a significant amount of loot is a trophy army in which case no base will matter as a th9.

The ringus is the most overrated base I have seen yet. I dont know why people like it so much. I run it over with loonion, 100%. Gowiwi, 100%. Mass giants, 100%. Dont use it!!! ITS HORRIBLE AND REALLY EASY TO DESTROY.

And as per how long I have used it, around a couple weeks. Until I lost nearly each and every defense.

All good points already pretty much made.

One, It's not wise to use a base that's been around forever and everyone knows the exact layout and how to defeat it.

Two, It only really protects against mass hogs....and lets face it, how often are you really hogged?

I suppose this also depends on league (mid crystal and up is more hog/loonian than gold for sure) but still what is it you really see on a consistent basis if you are farming? Giant/wiz, Giant/healer, Barch or Bam, with maybe the occasional hog or loonian or unique army in maybe 1/100 raids.

For war it might make a little more sense to go anti-hog as hogs were and still are a very common strategy. Problem is these ring bases are easily also wrecked by Wipe, Wiwi, Drag, or pretty much any other strat as they primarily just defend against one thing, hogs.

Ringus was good for what it does and was originally designed for and it's hard to argue that. A good base is a good base as many have and will continue to use it.

However, the above two reasons kind of kills it, and if you are going to use a well known base... at the very least try to put your own spin on it or change up some trap placement.

And I don't really even think anti-hog is all that good anymore. Protect against one less commonly used strat and get wrecked by pretty much all others... or have a base that might get beat by the occasional hogger, but does well against other more common strats.

Either way no base protects against everything...but I'd rather have a well designed base that defends against most, rather than 1 primarily used strat that has slowing been dying since the update.

Not to say hogs aren't still good as they can be very good, depending on picking the right base to attack and the attackers skill. Experienced hoggers can also smash most "anti-hog" bases as well if they test properly and know what their doing....another reason why I'm not a fan of most of these anti hog bases.

I've used Ringus for a time, likely when hogs were more common. It tested well against hogs, but as others have said in this topic...not so great with anything else.

Ringus is holding really well against barch bam and giants. Lonion is an issue. Mass dragons? Was attacked once in all the time I'm in TH9. WiWi and WiPe? Newer.

I was using a slightly modified version of it as a th9 and enjoyed it. When I hit th10 I was too lazy to change the layout and so I just put all upgrading defense buildings outside the walls... after about three months as a th10 I still have the th9 Ringus base and honestly it is working great for me in C1 with lvl2 infernos, lvl3 xbows, lvl7 teslas... Four upgrading defenses at a time on the outside seems to act as a great decoy to the attacking forces and lets the active defenses do their job.

Maybe one day I will try Ringus th10 out, but honestly I usually only lose one gold and one elixir storage, most times not even that.

Oh come on…everyone knows that you can access rings core just spamming barch and BK from a corner… I don't know what is for you "really well". For me the defense log of a good farming base is made 99% by snipes

3 lvl 7 mortars + 2 lvl 3 x-bows. You can try :D

I used Ringus at TH8 (I modified it) and it worked well. When I moved to th9 I used it for a bit but eventually changed because:

1. Ring bases are easily beat, break the ring at two places, especially with non defence orientated troops, and you're in.

2. It's too well known and therefore easily beaten. As with every base published on here it's most effective when new, less so as it gets older.

I've tried…it's always nice to see a ringus with 2000+ DE

I hear this a lot. I farm G3-G1 6hrs a day 5-7 days a week and I have seen a true Ringus maybe 4-5 times. I used it until I was a mid th9 and got 100% once by a TH10 who used max giants and 2 jump spells and high level royalty. At that point, any base is probably going to be subject to a thrashing. I got away from it, because I realized how weak the 3x3 core design is. All your eggs are in one basket and if giants breach the core, the Wizz towers and teslas are set too far away to help, hence you are relying on two xbows. If an AQ gets in the core with heal spells, all of your loot is toast. Personally, the bases that I have a hard time with are the ones that are full of compartments. Especially now that there are 4 mortars at th8 and above. It's just more splash to wipe out all of your complimentary troops while your giants beat on walls.

You're too high trophy if you're getting smashed by th10s probably. Stay at 1500s

I kept ringus all TH9 and still had it at th10 (slightly modified), and it works wonders. Very rarely did I ever get owned as th9 honestly, just switch trap placement up and put teslas in mid to protect DE, mortars in each corner.

As one of the previous posters noted, the trouble is only when the AQ manages to get into the 3x3 core...then your loot is pretty much all toast. That has very rarely happened though (granted my walls are mostly Lava).

I've also closed the funnels of the Ringus, just because I felt making people bang against my walls are a better use of my pretty walls.

I agree with the other posters that this is a terrible base design. I've recently 3-starred a player using this base with giant / wizards. He doesn't have any cc troops but both of his heroes were up. Rage, heal plus jump spell giants and wizards to the core and it's all over. That's the weakness of this base. BTW, we're both a month old TH9.

I did the same thing. I took wall sections out from in-between the storages to fill the gaps. It's not exposing a weakness, as many ring bases use this form of funneling. I also moved the teslas from the corners and put them in the center of the sides where builder's huts are located in the original iteration. It held up much better after that to large ground attacks. Also, when I got leveled by that th10, I was sitting at 1450 cups lol. So, there's no guarantee you won't see bigger fish in smaller ponds, it happens. 8 milliion people play this game, it's literally the luck of the draw.

I used ringus since TH 9 started,3 months ago. Now I'm at TH 9 maxed def and still doing wall upgrade to lego and BK/AQ to lvl 20. FYI,I always stay at C3. No one could 100% my base except Max Gowipe or Gowiwi :D.It was happened while I'm in Master. Giant lvl 6 and Hog lvl 5 is like a ♥♥♥♥ while attack my base. Max one gold-elix storage that I've lost from single attack

Using the base in Masters 3 right now. Used it all throughout TH9, now I'm a maxed TH9 except walls and heroes.
Going to drop back down to C2/C1 to farm DE with Balloonion.

I rarely ever get attacked for my DE, all gold/elixir is dumped into walls, TH placed outside for free shields.

Being a TH9 a year ago, when I started using it, was a very different place to today. Hogs were three-starring us left, right and center. It was the #1 threat. I was a huge fan of the Anti-Hog mode variant of The Black Whole, because it was the first time I'd seen an anti-hog where the ring was hidden in what looked like a traditional design. But I was a new TH9, without the powerful upgraded Teslas so I wanted a Black Whole which didn't rely on these in the core. I spent 3 weeks in CoCBuilder endlessly creating Black Whole variations until in the third week found myself creating the same design again and again. That was Ringus.

Then came the testing. I tested it for about a month before doing the official thread, and then as anyone who followed it knows, carried on testing it for my entire TH9. What became apparent is the design had some great strengths I never saw when first setting it up. The flexibility in moving stuff around while upgrading was powerful. The TH10 farming army then was mostly L6 Giants without many breakers. Ringus was great at defending this. Look at the original design. It is essentially just four long death funnels that bring armies into the middle of a side and lead them to a corner (importantly, away from the core).

If I could go back a year, I would probably...

a) Lose every mention of 'hogs' - It was the big threat of the day but the layout was all about defence-led troops.

b) Push the abstract nature more - Ringus wasn't normal in the sense that 'this mortar goes here' and 'that wizard tower goes there'. Ringus just stated that defences go here and here and non-defences go there. I tried all sorts of different layouts. Bows on the outer ring. All Wizard Towers in the core. They all defended differently. I wish I would have encouraged people not to copy the design to the letter and experiment more. I guess most are seeking the perfect design, which of course is impossible, like winning a constantly moving game of rock, paper, scissors.

c) Ignore what people said - I said at the time "Nobody knows anything" and I really meant it (and still do), but it's so easy to be swayed by an opinion from some prat on the internet.

Anyway, great to see it still being useful.

Do not use Ringus.. Level six giants and a heal spell will smash you every single time. One of the worst bases I've tried.

I have to agree that I lose alot when my base was attacked by level 6 troops. Only one storage left untouched, the others all gone.

I've been using it for months now and I've never lost more than 3 storages. I float around high c2 low c1. Giants never stand a chance. They just circle around the outer defense layer. How are you getting smashed so bad and I'm not

I used it for about 4-5 months. It worked pretty good. Then I started moding the core and putting the teslas in a ^ configuration for maximum DE protection.
