I was beginning to wonder if he'd given up and found a way to sell/downgrade things before quitting lol.

If they low level barracks and camps. Yup, gemmers quit.
If they have hight level barracks (4 level 10) and level 6 troops. Gemmers. BUT, they have all the cool troops and raid for fun (most likely adults with decent jobs - my colleagues for examples)
Got some free time, gem some high level troops. raid, 3 stars, have fun, log out, dont care what in the storage or what not :D (also the guy got raid will be like WT...hell, i can 3 stars him back and got 3k ??? hahhaha)
I vaguely remember in the first few months of CoC there was the ability sell buildings.
The sell button was removed at the same time that Town Hall 9 was released.
