I'll start this thread by describing a problem we've all encountered before.
A new member joins the clan and gets promoted to elder after x-amount of time (usually too soon). Without knowing this new member, who now became an elder, suffers from spontaneous mental breakdowns he suddenly kicks everyone who's not protected by the "elder" title.
Result? Half the clan is gone. Huge setback.
Action? The clanleader and others think of a new way: Why not make everyone elder, so nobody but the leader can kick members? Okay, that works. As long as the clanleader stays active that is.
Problem? One of the elders (who's been in the clan for like two days) turns out to be a huge dramaqueen and thus pissing of several other members.
If that dramaqueen plays in a different time zone than the leader, chances of him getting kicked anytime soon are slim.
Another excuse we hear often after someone kicked all the "members": "
It was my friend who played on my iDevice who did it. Bad friend, bad! Please don't kick me."
Here is what
might be a better solution for the way the hierarchy works now:
- Clanleader
- x1
- Abilities: Kick new members + members + officers. Promote new members + members.
- Officer
- Undifined amount. Keep it limited though.
- Abilities: Kick new members + members. Promote new members + members.
- Members
- They can't kick anyone, nor promote anyone.
- New members
- Their title indicates they are new to the clan and are running their trial period to see if they fit in the clan. After x-amount of time, an officer or the clanleader can promote the new member to a member. Imo, a good trial period is atleast 3 weeks for Clash of Clans.
If the clanleader is smart, he makes about 5 people officer. People who have been in the clan a long time, are trustworthy and preferably play in different time zones. This way, there is almost always an officer around should you need one.
An officer as i describe them is much like an elder as we know them today.
However, there are much much less of them and therefore reduces the chances of "bad things", like triggerhappy kicking people, from happening.
Other idea that is worth considering:
To counter clan hoppers, and especially the kind that keeps trying to get into a specific clan: Implement the ability to "ban" someone. A good system would be to have a "banned"-list that only the clanleader (and officers) can see. The clanleader has a "+" and a "-" to add and remove people from that list.
When someone tries to join a specific clan, his names gets run through the ban-list first. If his name is on it, the members won't even see the invite in the chat screen and the one trying to join gets a popup window "banned from this clan, etc.."
