To go for collectors you are better off using a cheap army, since loot is generally easy to get to so barch/bam is the best here.
When people have just upgraded their th, most people will want to use elixir for upgrades since this will help their offense, but after a while people will reach a stage where they tend to focus on the DE upgrades in research lab and at this time elixir used to be in abundance and storages would be overflowing with no use.
After the elixir to walls patch people that had finished their elixir upgrades would empty their elixir storages into the bottomless pit called walls. And which effect does that have? Well those bases would be nowhere to be found and they are therefore no longer raidable. This means more nexting and since elixir is now a more valued resource with a real use people also start looking more for them. This means people with less elixir available will also get raided now and this causes a downward spiral that will make some people give up their elixir upgrades hoping for better times later and they will also put their elixir into their walls. In effect elixir is now becoming a scarce resource. Those that insist on farming with elixir heavy armies will now have to next a lot more and many will give up using elixir heavy armies and start farming with barch/bam. With more people farming collectors, the inactives will be harder to find, since more people are nexting to find them. All would of course attack the inactives when found, but the heavy army users would stop nexting when they found their storage loot.
It has also been claimed on this thread, that gold has become more scarce. I’m sure it’s pretty much the same amount of gold that is available to be raided, but…. Before the patch people would generally just look upon gold available to be looted and if they would loose elixir in the attack it didn’t matter since they would get more later then. Now when elixir is scarce, many people will skip bases with some gold but hardly any elixir. Thus again having to next more. But the most important factor is the cost to next. With more nexting the gold profit (if any) goes down and the perceived gold farmable loot goes down as well.
And now a little side note. Yesterday I I did a 2 hour session with barch and no boosting, since I know that boosting is no use anymore because I will next so long time that it’s not worthwhile anymore. I was looking at my current gold amount and looked again when I found a camp that I attacked to have an estimate of how many times I had nexted. I did 5 attacks plus 4 th snipes in C2 and did some decent raids with one of them even being a nice inactive that yielded 290/290/xx. Unfortunately with the amount of nexts I had made, the net result was a surplus of 50k gold and 600k elixir. This was absolutely no fun and this was even with a threshold of 75/75/0 lootable for me. After such a session (and I have had many more like it) I really feel like deleting the game. Nexting 320 times is simply no fun at all.
So the overall effect of the elixir to walls patch is a lot more nexting and nexting equals frustration. It also means that donations in clans will go down and thus causing clans to dissolve. This again causes people to quit the game.
The best choice for the overall economy and funfactor in the game would be to reintroduce storage raiding as a viable option for most trophy ranges. Now it’s not really an option from ranges 1900-2700 where I have searched and from what I read/heard also other ranges.
The best way would be to change the way of dealing with excess elixir to make it usable for nexting (also option to still use gold) instead of dumping into the bottomless pit called walls. Using elixir to pay for nexts is only a gradual decrease of available elixir from storages and most likely there will still be elixir in abundance. Elixir is for offense and gold is for defense. So it also befits the general concept a lot better. The gold amount saved from nexting would still be appreciated as a nice profit.
It would be even better to go back to a flat loot percentage of 20% for all th levels since this would make storage raids even more interesting, causing people to next less and have more fun. Some would claim, that it could be harder to save up, but I say no, because you would find loot more consistently and have to next less, so would be easier to save. This is only theory, but I believe it firmly.
I read somewhere in this thread that someone was saying something about correlation and cause. There is cause according to my deduction above.
And to those that say that now loot is good and now loot is bad again. This is just a normal effect of huge variation. You know.... some people do win the lotto as well.
Just some thoughts from a fully upgraded th10 that has been attacking 200-400 times consistently every season for about a year or more.
