Clan w/very specific War Strategy -Looking for 1 more to make 15.
Attachment 66190
Clan Name: Dragon Fahrt.
No. of Members: 14 (as of 9/23/2014).
Our short-term goal is to reach 15 members who all enjoy and abide by our war strategy. Long-term: reach 20.
We are a small clan now, just lost a member and need to get back to 15. We have a very specific war strategy that is based on our life styles (working adults), time commitment to the game (probably very well below average in terms of hours per week). We only have wars 2X per week, so we make them count. There are plenty of large clans that initiate wars the second the last one ends - - they have a revolving door of members and may win a war even though only 40% of the available attacks were made by the top 15 against the enemy clan's bottom 20. This actually works, but is only profitable for those who raid often and play often. Our clan is comprised of people who enjoy playing but we have lives. We're old.
Our clan members' ages range from mid-20s to mid-30s. Some have families, some have demanding careers, and some only like playing for a few hours a week.
WAR STRATEGY
First, we only initiate wars on Mondays and Thursdays around 6-7 PM (EST).
- We chose 6-7 PM because the war will actually start between 6-8 PM ... Therefore, everyone has a chance to make preparations and fill clan castles just after work. Same for battle day: can launch 1st attack just after work, and - if need be - can launch 2nd attack after work the next day with a couple of hours left.
Second, for the FIRST ATTACK, we designate who attacks who.
- This is determined as follows: we have several low-level members who don't like to participate in the war - or - if they do, then they wait until the 11th hour to attack. So, let's say (out of 15 members), war-rank numbers 11, 14, and 15 are "out." We then shift everyone else down to fill out 15 through 4 (i.e., our #1 attacks the enemy #4; our #13 attacks the enemy #15).
- However, any of the enemy ranks not 'spoken for' are up for grabs on a dibs-basis. So, if our #2 is designated enemy #5, but wants to attack enemy #1, they just have to call it. The order remains otherwise unchanged.
Last, for the SECOND ATTACK, we generally let the lower levels go before the upper levels.
- E.g., best thing to do would be to let our lowest active rank do their 2nd 1st, then ascend. Then, absolutely last, have the "out" members attacks as needed.
The reasoning:
- Designating attacks in this way accomplishes a few goals:
- Ensures a greater likelihood of yielding stars.
- Ensures a balance between ability to get stars and worthy loot bonuses.
- Ensures that everyone is picking on someone their own size.
- Ensures that attacks are effective.
- Overall, boxing-out others is bad in a small clan:
- Think about it like this: the top 3 members can almost always 3-star the bottom 6 enemies. This guarantees 18 stars. However, the loot bonuses are essentially nothing (in some cases, actually zero). Also, the bottom 3 members can rarely, if ever, get even 1 star from enemies at or above 7. So, you get a guaranteed 18 stars, worthless loot bonuses, and you render 4-5 players useless and unable to participate in the war.
- That is an extreme example, but even on a case by case basis, attacking too low is a bad move. Even if everyone attacked appropriately, but our 1 attacks enemy 15, then our 15 may be boxed out. That's not fun for anyone involved.
- A rule of thumb like "only attack w/in 2 of your rank" is not a very effective plan for us. When you know in advance who to dedicate your first attack to ... you have nearly a full day to plan your attack, build your army, make your spells, study your enemy, etc. When there's several people who could attack any one of 5 bases you "may" attack ... then the uncertainty can lead to sloppy attacks. If one builds a strategy and army for a certain base, only to have it get 3 starred by a fellow member before getting a chance to attack ... then you may be left with a ton of useless troops, spells, and time ill-spent.
- Small clan means blanket rules are too ... blanket-y.
Why post all of this here?
