Nectar bush management

I've searched for this topic, and all I've found were the posts noting that nectar bushes eat up our axes. Those of us who used to sell them are prone to running out - myself included.

In our NH we have noticed this, and some of us have temporarily stopped harvesting the hives because we can't manage the nectar bush/ax requirement. True, nectar bushes are harvested by bees, but if you think of them in the same category as other renewable bushes, they are clearly still in a class of their own. One renewal, then dead.

Is anyone managing them well? That is, does your farm produce enough axes to chop them down as often as they need to be?

Not sure how to deal with this new bit of the game. I love those bees, but am not enjoying how often I must chop down nectar bushes.

2 bushes per hive and you'll need 2 axes every 5 hours 40 minutes of honeycomb production time (approximate).

My farm is handling that output without problem and I play a lot. I run through 8 bushes a day. I have 2 hives and I'm about 8k away from my 3rd.

Wow. I'm so glad you are managing it so well! It is possible, then. I ran into a problem when I harvested berries in addition to managing the nectar bushes. But it sounds as though for you this is not an issue.

i obtain axes by trading with my stash of precious planks. planks seem to be on most people's wanted list so i have no problem getting axes, or honeycomb with them. due to that i dont really think so much about the nectar bush strategy but i usually have 4-5 on my farm.

worse come to worst, use tom. i dont think i'll ever stop honey harvesting/production. obtaining mastery for every machine is my goal. i like the stars! :D

Not in the least. A corner of my farm is packed with about 24 dead nectar bushes so far. Prior to the update I did a decent job of acquiring enough axes to handle all my other bushes, but I don't have enough for the rapid rate of use the nectar ones require. Unfortunately, I get maybe 1 axe per 10 saws from wheating, which I don't do very often as it is.

I don't have a plan right now. I suppose if my farm starts getting overrun with dead bushes I'll just cease production for awhile, which I'd rather not have to do. I'm really hoping SC either tweaks the bushes or adds a compost bin for them.

Im doing okay with them.
I kind of expected to have a problem because I harvested all my berry bushes for the Visitor Event too.

Im at about 30,000 of 40,000 nectars a to get my third hive.

Since the bees and nectar bushes came along my stock of axes is usually around 5 to 10. So far I haven't run out of axes and if I do I'll start stockpiling dead nectar bushes.
I don't know if it's important or not but I have been keeping my stock of saws just as low as the axes. So have been selling off saws in my RSS occasionally.

Im finding that there's no benefit to me to hoard any of the tools. Or expansion items either.

I may be letting my saw supply get too high given the demand on the axes. I usually sell them, but I may need to keep a closer eye on the saw supply. I will try selling those off, and see if I do better. Thanks for sharing the observation!

Sparkly888 definitely has an idea! My saw-to-hatchet ratio was never skewed enough to matter before the bees arrived. I just sold the excess of either when I needed room in the barn. I'll try this!

People are fed up with the dead bushes! some have left game. I am on level 76 and know how to manage axes! We have never seen such a severe shortage of an item for such a long period of time! Shame because it is a very cute game. HD should not have come out with a beehive if they will not make it less frustrating for people! They are putting dead bushes around bon fire as a joke now...... but make the bonfires burn the dead bushes at least!!!!

For those who say we are whining.... how rude and ridiculous! You may be getting adequate supply but many havent had a axe in days!

I love the bees and new recipies with honey, but the nectar bushes are taking over my farm... I need axes and alot of them but dont want to buy them...isnt there someway that axes could be more easily available?

I've had a similar experience, and am in about the same place, about 8k away from my 3rd hive. I haven't kept detailed track of how many I go through, but it seems like about the same...6-8 per day.

I DO have Tom on continual hire...have for several months, so I have used him twice to get axes because there wasn't anything else for him to get at the time and I didn't want to waste a run. So, I started the bee update with around 50 axes, have used maybe around 6 a day, have used Tom two times, and as of this morning had 49 axes. Oh, and also got two from the first fishing goal. I've had a few drop while cropping, and a couple drop from mystery boxes and town, and even had Greg's farm give me one in his RSS.

And, re the equality of tools....I do try to keep a similar amount of axes/saws...but not at all sure that has anything to do with it.

I have not had the issue yet either and have no dead trees/bushes. I typically find plenty of saws/axes in the DD. I am an avid DD shopper though. If I'm playing HD, I'm scouring the DD - that's just how I play.

Usually I need to end up selling the extras I cannot hold. Trading them for planks sounds better ;)

My strategy was to plant a lot of nectar bushes with the idea that, by the time the bees used up all the nectar in a bush, I would have accumulated enough axes. This worked for awhile, but the dead bushes soon began piling up. I had to use Tom twice to get rid of them.

I have noticed that I've been getting more axes by serving town visitors than by wheating.

This is my biggest fear, lol! I have 44 nectar bushes and so far I've only been replacing a couple each time I play, but the fear that one day they will all go dead is always just in the background. :p

I finally had my first axe for days! Needless to say it was quickly used on one of my dead nectar bushes! Incidentally it appeared after I had used a lot of my saws on trees and I'd gotten them down to single figures.

I've decided that as honey based products don't appear to be too much in demand on my farm or others boats etc, my bees are having a well earned rest on their hives at the moment. I'll wait til I start getting some more axes before they have to start working again.

With regard to this thread and the shortage of axes, I came up with a small idea and posted it on the ideas forum, where it has been ignored, like most of the posts there. I wonder if I could ask you to take a look and offer your opinions please?

Ooh I like it. I played another game that had one of those. Just because no one answered you , don't assume supercell hasn't taken it into consideration. One of the stickies states that they read all new ideas weekly. They compile the reasonable ones and discuss them. You understand I mean reasonable to be something other than "we need 100 diamonds when there is a maintenance break or Tom should be free". Stuff like that.

I just started a thread with a question abt NB. I'm curious why people buy so many? I have three! If I'm playing, I collect my honey. I thought some farms might be using NB as decor because it escapes me why they have so many.
but, to each their own!

I am almost to level 200, have max bees/hives.

I have a circle around the tree and it's perfectly managable. I have wondered the same thing.

Mine are close to the tree, I have ample honey & love not having dead bushes all over my farm!

I purchase 4 nectar bushes at a time and chop them down. However I didn't always do this now my forest filled flower farm has blobs of white can't do enough to hide them.

I want a bonfire to burn those suckered up😈

Lol! I'm sure you're not the only one that wishes for a fire! Maybe a drought? They might curl up & die?
i truly wondered if people liked the bushes so much they were decorating with them! No kidding!
had a gal in my hood, her farm has more than I've ever seen! And if she gets an axe or two,her current bushes are dead so rather than getting ahead, the issue is propagating! I suggested she quit buying NB for a month or so, to get ahead of the axe v NB game!

i think you're very wise to keep minimum amount of nectar bushes! For some reason people went overboard when these came out, now they have no way to get rid of them! I have all my mastery & didn't need 800 NB!

I managed this very well. I have 4 bee hives at level 59. No dead bushes.
Everytime I put out 6-7 bushes. If I have more axes, I put more. If not, I stopped it.I played this game for 1 year.

Ive seen several farms that will never be able to get rid of all of their NBs!
And as I stated earlier maybe some people are using them as decor, fencing, border. They have enough!

This is my farm. I took it a little late. But I had 4 beehives at level 59.

Six bushes are all one needs to keep the bees busy. Bees won't collect any faster if there are 25 available bushes. Stagger the purchase of bushes so they don't all need replacing at once. I seldom have dead bushes and no axes. It works for me.

I have tons of nectar bushes. I use them as a border around a part of my farm. I have 4 hives and I collect honey ALL DAY LONG. But I have sooo many axes, I often have to sell them to make room in my barn. I work the town nonstop and must collect at least 10 axes a day!

I've heard that players in the U.K. get a bonfire once a year to burn everything dead up on their farm. But nothing like that for North Americans, any truth to it?

Supercell definitely needs to adjust the amount of nectar the bushes give before dying. On my farm I try to have 10 of every tree & bush. I only harvest to keep 3 of everything in my barn. Being an active derby participant requires harvesting fruits & nectars. By harvesting & selling produce cheap I am able to get enough saws and axes to manage my land with the exception of nectar bushes. Currently there is 1 dead cherry tree, 1 dead blueberry bush, 1 dead raspberry bush and 34 dead nectar bushes on my farm.

So many people complain about getting so many but I still see too many farms with acres of dead bushes and noone selling them in the DD. It is so odd...now increase the drop rate of maps or other town items and they fill the DD until people scream STOP!!!!
