New raiding idea: New use for mortars

Wouldn't it make sense that your mortar in your village can bombard the people you are attacking? It could be an alternative to using a lightning spell, and to refill your mortars shots after a raid you would fill it like an x-bow. There would be an option to set it to attack or defend and it would have a cool down after attacking, which would be about six hours. This could be sped up by gems so supercell can profit. The higher the level of the mortar, the more damage(as usual) and shots that can be fired would increase(3-6 shots max total of all mortars)

I like the idea! Kinda like artillery fire in real life where the bombard cannon is fired far away from the target's range.

I would like to add these things:
- 12hr cooldown per mortar use
- 1 shot per mortar every use
- woul not cost anything for each use unless it is sped up
- cannot affect town halls

With 2 years of my experience firing howitzers in the war zone, the idea is pretty much acceptable because it doesnt break the "fourth wall" (the boundary of fictional and non-fictional ideas)

think about the top 200 players attacking your base with 2-3 shots per mortar.

2-3 shots to 3-4 mortars lvl5-7 = 6-12 shots all in all

I like the idea, but whats the main reasonm why mortars are so good? AREA damage.

A mortar is so good as it can take out dozens of troops at once. It actually has the lowest damage of any defence.

But against buildings, splash damage wouldnt do much: the mortars splash radius isnt big enough to affect many buildings at once.

And once the mortars put in, in the next update there might be teslas u can attack with. Then cannons. Then archer towers. And that would ruin the game.

But even with the splash thing, i think its a GREAT idea. And as long as thats the only defence u can attack with, Id love to c it in the game!

Well mortars are designed for attack at long range so it makes sense for bombarding. Also, mortars can damage buildings a lot too, not just troops and are designed in real life for bombarding soldiers AND structures. Thanks for the constructive criticism and input.

Its a good idea, but doesn't make sense at all. For one.. When you place your mortar down.. It can't move.. You won't be able to place it OVER things.... So it would have to be on the outter part of the base...which does no good at all. I'm sure thats why the clan castle and troops were used.. An extra attack, with spells and archer queen and barb king.. An immovable object wouldn't do much.

It doesn't move and I don't get where you are getting the idea that the actual building gos to their base. The mortar stays at your base and works like a spell, you will assign it a place to bombard and it will shoot from YOUR base to theirs, get what I am saying? Sorry to sound so harsh but your cutting down my idea and you don't even pose a question about where it shoots from..

I think the idea of a stationary offensive "tower" is a good one. Balance would be tricky though as it would either likely be too short range to be helpful or so long range as to be overpowered. Balance is the problem.

Unfortunatly I have to agree that range could be a prob, but the tower is in your base so in a sense range is broken already...

if u actually new how mortars worked u would know that mortars shoot every 5-6 seconds so u just multiply the dps by 5 or 6 and u will see that mortars actually do a lot of damage so next time think before u post

Mortar's damage is based per shot since it fires, reload and repeat. It is multiplied since the standard measurement for damage is dps.

Mortars dont fire per second.

I think U need to think before U post.

What i am saying is that because it has to reload, it does less damage than archer towers or any other defence PER SECOND. I NEVER mentioned damage per shot before i was quoted.

One note though:
A lot of people have been asking for water troops, so why not merge the two ideas, you could have, say, a battleship, and bombard the enemy you are attacking. You could build it TH8 and just plop it on the coast next to your base, ready to provide artillery support. This would also give SuperCell an excuse to make DE troops that could attack via water. But SC might wanna use an old-timey wooden ship to fit into the whole mystical/early age/autonomous cannons thing.

Warship is not a bad idea... It could get metal plates as it inceases in levels and have a mortar in the center.

This is genius. It would really change gameplay and attacking strategy.

Think about mortars as lightingn spell;)

I think this is a pretty good idea but motars can only go so far with in your own village, but like I've seen before, a catapult would be a better substitute would it not? A function where I doesnt help defend but more of a attack building with in your village. But because (either motar or catapult) can't be hit, I think it shooting a ball that does splash damage after a 40sec cool down or so? Because 3-4 shots at most would be far right? Though this would make lightning spell basically useless.

How does it make any sense... It is just another lightning spell... A fully upgraded mortar does 75 damage per shot. So if it fires 5 shots on a spot it will do 375 damage... Same as a lightning spell... If it is cooling down it can't defend so thats a waste.... With its splash radius all it can do is destroy 1 building and if the building is surrounded by walls on all 4 sides so some damage to the walls as well. So a th9 now has 4 lightning spells and 3 mortars, therefore can destroy 2 to 3 defence buildings when attacking.... Leaving him open to a ground assault as he doesn't have any mortars to defend and the other guy will take out his 2 or 3 defences with his spells and so on.

To explain everything to you:
- Mortar shots will come from the base and not via another troop. Therefore, it is not dropped on the battlefield
- Mortar shots will be reduced once it reaches lvl5-6 to give way to the power.
- Mortar will still defend after each use; cooldown only applies to offense, defending the base will not be affected
- Equal damage on all buildings; 75 damage on all affected buildings instead on ground zero
- Damage on offense battles is 2x-3x higher on defense battles

Its a alternative to a spell, when I thought of the idea the purpose was to cost gold instead of elixir and give the attacker more options.

Thanks for the constructive criticism, the mortar is supposed to be a lightning alternative that costs gold instead of elixir. I cannot unfortunately predict what will be favored more though.

Cool idea, but maybe it could be a separate artillery base or something like a spell factory. If it was just the mortar itself there should be some sort of disadvantage like making the mortar completely in usable for defense for 1 hour.

Thanks for your input, I was hoping to leave the defensive mode alone, but if I have to I will change it.

I hate to be the rain on the parade, but many other, including myself, have requested things like trebuchets and catapults to use on offense, but they haven't gotten any response from the devs. I love the idea, but the devs either don't care for it or they have another trick up their sleeve...

this idea is really cool, for all of you saying this is impossible, have you played lag ops 1? it has mortar strike, plus a lot of other game have artillery strikes/mortar strikes
