The Most Important Change this Game Needs
... is to incentivize defensive wins. Here's my reasoning:
I've always thought that the exposed TH to get a cheap shield strategy is sort of against the spirit of the game. But there's no doubt it is the best way for farmers to conserve resources. However, this means that almost every smart farmer who is holding loot is almost constantly under shield. So with most good collector raids in the back of the search queue, and most good storage raids cheaply shielded 24/7, it's no wonder why loot is scarce. The loot system isn't the problem, it is the type of base that is most ofter in the attack queue. All those raids with 50k of each are bases that are holding less than 500k of each resource in storages. For active farmers, this hardly ever happens. So, when searching for attacks, most bases coming up are loosely active players who never really save up resources, but just log on occasionally.
Now to the defensive wins part. Imagine if there was some incentive to protect the TH, and win on defense. Perhaps all traps and CC troops are rearmed after a defensive win. Or a portion of loot stolen is refunded for a win. Or maybe a league defense win bonus, like the offense win bonus. It just needs to be enough to make cheap shielding not worth it. This would mean that heavily active farmers would appear in the attack queue much more often, giving attackers plenty of good loot options that they have to work for. This means less nexting, more loot choices, but more strategizing involved on offense and defense.
