Is there any need to upgrade walls beyond lvl 7?

As you can see from my signature, I will likely have 75-80% lvl 7 walls when I reach TH8. The cost to upgrade all walls from lvl 6 to lvl 7 is 37.5m gold. The cost to upgrade all walls from lvl 7 to 8 will be 112.5m gold, which is a lot!

I just looked up the number of wall breakers (WB) required to break through walls and well, lvl 7, 8, 9 walls all can be broken by 2 lvl 6 WBs. So if all your defences are upgraded and elixir upgrades are mostly done, is there any reason to wait for walls beyond lvl 7?

I am not saying that there is no difference between walls that have 2500 HP and those that have 4000 HP, but the costs associated and hence the time and effort required doesn't seem worth waiting. My thinking is that it would be best to move on once you have the lab upgrades you want and the defences upgraded. I won't hae to make this decision until about 3 months, but I just wanted to know what people think about this issue. Obviously, once the gold is free, walls will be upgraded.

No. Upgrade to lvl 7, then be done, takes 2 hits from lvl 6 wb instead of one, legos (i think) get the big boost.

Wall breakers aren't the only thing that hit walls...

You really should only be worried about lvl 5 wall breakers bc TH 10 attacking TH 8 won't really give much loot. im trying to get lvl 9 walls bc that's the difference maker. I a th 9..... so vs other TH 9s it will take 3 wbs and with lava walls it would take 3 max wbs.

Yes. Strive for level 9s.

Walls dont make that hudge of a difference in regular game play, especially if you are a causual farmer/player. If you have you sights set on being a champ than there very valuable.

First, Not every Wb makes it to the wall. On my war base I have some unwalled defences to seperate golems/giants from the wall breaker.

Second, if your base has good compartments, Wb might get into one or two compartments, but troops will still need to pound away at other walls.

Third, you would be suprised how many people raid a base without Wbs.

I finished Legos and am now working on lavas, all at th9. I am a top base in my wars because my maxed th9 (minus walls, with lvl 15 heroes) essentially counts as a th10 in matchmaking for wars, so I'm always getting hit by th10s. I cannot stress how important walls are. The amount of times an enemy has had only his bk/aq die trying to hammer through a lego wall is incredible. Wallbreakers will get through walls, but you're gonna need at least 15 perfectly timed/placed breakers in order to hit my core, and we all know how rare it is to have a perfect raid with no breakers wasted. The real difference comes down to when straggler troops/heroes get slaughtered while trying to break through a wall trying to get the townhall/mop up a few percentage points. They take time, but I now have all of my troops maxed, 15/15 heroes, and a maxed base. Once my walls are done, my heroes will be up around 25/25, so I'll be stronger than 90% of th10s the second i get my infernos up.

There arent the biggest different from lvl 7-8, but expect lvl 7 Wallbreakers to be able to take 1 lvl 7 wall in one, just to be in advance :)

Actually, getting lvl 7 walls wasnt much for a challange for me. But what really sets the standard is how much you play. 35 million isnt much for a person who plays alot but a ton for the person who doesn't that frequently. I am probably in the region of player that players alot :P I have 200m gold grab stolen and i am in TH8.

Walls absolutely make a difference. Is that difference worth the time/cost associated? That is purely a personal question for each player to consider. I would never leave builders or my lab idle while farming walls. Some players disagree. What works for you?

Thanks for the response guys; it was helpful. Just a small clarification - the title may make it appear that I think that there is no need to upgrade beyond lvl 7. What I actually meant was that other gold upgrades would be prioritised and there will be no waiting for walls to be upgraded to lvl 8 before moving to TH9, for example. I am not saying that I wouldn't upgrade walls beyond TH7 - they would just be the lowest priority.

I waited a few days before starting the upgrade to TH8. I think it was good to wait for a few days because in the meantime I have also been able to complete all the elixir upgrades which were left. Being able to get dragons from 3-4 barracks instead of one can help me not spend 10 gems to boost barracks.

My plan is that I will not wait for lvl 8 walls before upgrading to TH9. But I will get most of the lab upgrades before I do that, so there will be gold for some wall upgrades :)

It's not a bad plan, but i think skull walls will come easier than you expect. Especially since the new update allows either resource to upgrade them.

I'm closing in on finishing th9, and one thing i noticed right away: the early stages are HEAVY on elixir. There's SOOOOO much to do. Army camps, dark drills, lab, spell factory, all the research. But by the time all that's done (which usually out-paces the gold upgrades) then you'll find yourself like i am. Sitting on between 4-8 mil elixir with nothing to spend it on except armies.

I've done all my elixir upgrades, maxed my drills and camps, and obviously upgraded the lab/spell fact. So if you get to this point, just keep farming like you've been doing, but dump elix into walls, gold into upgrades.

Skulls honestly are sort of cake and you'll see that when you get up here. Legos aren't "easy" but also do-able if you focus on them.

I full skulls and about 75 legos currently. Holding off until i bounce back from spending all my elix on dark barracks upgrades, then i plan on finishing legos before th10.

Level 9 walls are bare minimum.

Level 10 and 11 are a luxury.

So true. It's sad to watch them throw their army away, but some people need to learn the hard way.

Well first of all, there's the intimidation that comes with the walls... and there's the extra hitpoints to slow the enemy down... and finally, it actually provides us with a way to dump gold/elixir. Loots not yours until you spend it :D

Chances are wallbreakers won't reach your core in high level game play. Also, wallbreakers deal extra damage under the influence of a rage spell so you may need to redo your calculations.

walls levels, at TH9 and above, are the difference between a 1 and 2 star and 2 and 3 star in wars... for farming how many times have you had heroes or giants hitting a wall and getting to a storage?

You look a lot stronger IMO and i wouldn't attack u with my army if u had lvl 9 walls but i would if u had lvl 7

Thanks for all the replies guys, I really appreciate it. I watched a couple of really high level attacks on Youtube - attacks with lvl 40 heroes, max lvl Golems etc, and the walls do make a difference there. It must be pretty infuriating to not get 3 stars because the AQ spent all her time destroying a wall instead of that last storage.

Change of plans - I guess I will try to get lvl 8 walls before moving to TH9 (still far away). When I get bored of farming for walls, I will upgrade to TH9. Not that that is an immediate concern - I am just about to reach TH8 and it will take a long time to max.
