A complete work of everything
Hello, Seanster999 here, aka Sean Flik. My goal is to make this a giant thread displaying the best guides for attacking, defending, base designing, trophy pushing, farming, clan creating, and everything else you might need in order to truly succeed at one of the greatest games of all time. As you can see in my signature, this is a work in progress, being that I am only TH 8. So I will be starting out with TH 2 and working my way up, and hopefully I will be able to share TH 9 and 10 by the time I get there. Obviously, this guide may not be much help for all you max TH 10s out there at first, so please be patient.

Suggested Upgrade Order:
(taken from Fly's guide to Upgrading, see here: http://forum.supercell.net/showthrea...e-to-Upgrading )
First, upgrade:
Cannons. Why? "Cannons are the cheapest defensive turret in the game, and at Town Hall 2, they form a critical part of your defense."
Followed by:
Gold Mines and Elixir Collectors. Why? "...A main source of resources, and as always, the more resources, the better."
Gold Storages and Elixir Storages. Why? "You want to be able to store all of your loot, right?"
Archer Tower. Why? "This is your main long-range defense, and it is [the only anti-air defense you have at this Town Hall."
Barracks. Why? "This unlocks archers, which are handy in attacks as they are long range. (Side note: this is also part of the Release the Beasts achievement.)" Also unlocks Goblins, which are super speedy and great for stealing loot, and also unlocks Giants, which are excellent "tank units", meaning that when they are placed down first, they soak up a lot of damage and provide a meat shield for your other troops. Giants also go for defenses.
Army Camp. Why? "This way you can have more troops."
Walls. Why? "This takes a while and is costly, but it pays off in the long run. If your base is divided into compartments, upgrade the walls that are shared between the compartments first."
Finally, upgrade:
Town Hall. Why? This way you can unlock more troops, better defenses, and more unique buildings.
Troop Guide
Barbarians
"This fearless warrior relies on his bulging muscles and striking mustache to wreak havoc in enemy villages. Release a horde of Barbarians and enjoy the mayhem!"
Barbarian are your basic troop. Nothing too special about them. Barbarians do not have a favorite target, meaning they will attack whatever building closest to them. It is best to place down Barbarians on/next to or as close to the defenses as possible so that they do get killed while they are destroying other buildings.
Archers
"These sharpshooters like to keep their distance on the battlefield and in life. Nothing makes them happier than single-mindedly taking down their target."
Archers are similar to Barbarians in that they are pretty basic troops. Unlike Barbarians, Archers can destroy buildings from a distance, meaning that they can destroy buildings and defenses may not be able to shoot at them depending on their range. Archers can also shoot over walls, and can target air troops, neither of which Barbarians can do. Archers are faster than Barbarians, but deal less damage, and have less hit points, meaning they can get killed by defenses faster.
Goblins
"These pesky little creatures only have eyes for one thing: LOOT! They are faster than a Spring Trap, and their hunger for resources is limitless."
Goblins, unlike both Barbarians and Archers, have a favorite target, meaning that they will attack this type of buildings before they attack the others. The Goblin's favorite target is Resources, so they will attack Gold Mines, Elixir Collectors, Gold Storages, and Elixir Storages (as well as Dark Elixir Drills and Dark Elixir Storages) and they deal double the damage to these buildings than normal buildings such as Barracks, Cannons, etc. Goblins are also faster than Archers, and cannot be killed by Spring Traps or Bombs, unless they are not moving when they are set off.
Giants
"These big guys may seem calm, but show them a turret or cannon and you'll see their fury unleashed! Slow yet durable, these warriors are best used to soak up hits."
Giants have a lot of hit points, meaning they can soak up a of of damage and cause a distraction for your other troops. Their favorite targets are defenses, so it is best to provide them with support with Barbarians and or Archers. Giants are rather slow, and do not deal a lot of damage, but make sure to use them as a "meat shield" to soak up damage while your Barbarian, Archers, and Goblins destroy the other buildings and steal all of the resources and you won't be let down!
Attack Strategies
BARCH
BARCH stands for BARbarians and ARCHers, a great combination, as Barbarians can soak some damage and provide cover while the Archers can shoot over walls and steal resources and provide support for the Barbarians. Place down Barbarians first, spreading them out over an area, followed by spreading out the Archers behind the Barbarians.
Best combination for TH 2: 15 Barbarians and 15 Archers usually works well, although any combination as long at is fairly even works fine.
BAGI
BAGI stands for Barbarians, Archers, and GIants. When using this strategy, place down Giants first in order to start destroying defenses and to provide a "shield" for your troops, followed by the Barbarians and then the Archers.
Best Combination for TH 2: 3 Giants, 10 Barbarians, 5 Archers, again, any combination similar to this, with at least two giants, usually works well.
BAGO
BAGO stands for Barbarians, Archers, and GOblins. This is more of a resource stealing attack strategy and is not always useful for gaining trophies. Place down you Barbarians first, to soak up damage, and then Goblins to steal the resources, followed by the Archers for support.
Best Combination for TH 2: 12 Barbarians, 8 Goblins, 10 Archers. Any variation of this as long as slightly similar should work well also.
Basic Base Creating
Whenever you are creating a base layout, or designing a new layout, make sure that you protect the right buildings. At TH 2, the following are excellent choices to place in the center of your base, although you may not want to place all of them there: Town Hall, Gold Storage, Elixir Storage, Cannons, Archer Tower. It is best to place either your Town Hall or your Storages in the center and surround them with your defenses. Walls should either surround your TH, your Storages, or your defenses.
Make sure to never leave an opening anywhere near the center of your base. An opening is any area larger than 3 tiles by 3 tiles in size. Troops can be directly placed here by the attacker. Attackers can place troops anywhere on the outside of your base, or in any openings in your base. Attackers can also place troops on obstacles (such as trees, rocks, bushes, etc) and also on decorations (such as flags, statues, etc) so make sure to not have obstacles in the middle of your base, and do not place decorations in the middle of your base. Attackers can place down troops anywhere on the outside of your base (and in openings as well) so this means even in the dark green grass on the edge of your base where you cannot place buildings. This means it is a bad idea to put all of your buildings in a corner of the layout. It also means you should not try to surround your entire layout with walls as troops can be placed on the inside if there are openings. (Note: troops cannot be placed in openings smaller than 3 tiles by 3 tiles)
Examples (DO NOT DO THIS):

In this picture, an attacker could place troops anywhere on the outside of the base, even on the red line. An attacker could also place troops directly on top of the rocks that are in the base.

In this picture, troops can be directly placed in the area to the lower-left of the clan castle, as well as directly to the right of the clan castle.
Examples (These you can use):

This is an excellent example of a great base for a TH 2 player. As you can see, the Town Hall, as well as some of the defenses and a storage are protected in the middle of the base. If you wanted to have a better base for gaining trophies, you could swap the Cannon that is outside of the walls for the Elixir Storage. If you wanted to protect more of your loot, simply trade the Town Hall for the Gold Storage.
