Far from useless. Still using them well in cases where they are the right strategy. (but being smart about not sending them into double GB traps)
What's changed is just that they are no longer the unstoppable 'magic bullet for everything' strategy that they used to be. Sometimes I miss that too, but it was meant so that we would have to all acquire more skills and that was not a bad thing to do for the game as a whole.
Why don't you just tell your "hogs rider" to not go over the giant bombs? I do it all the time and 4 star bases.
Maybe have the hogs die at like 300 HP, but the rider falls off and is now a barbarian.
