archers for me.
imo there is not ONE most useful troop as they all have their pros and cons and normally need to be combined with other troops to be useful.
I love hogs and use them often, but no, imo they are definitely not even close to the most useful troop. Can you you use them on defense (in cc) effectively? No, so there is half of their usefulness gone right there. Also with the GiB buff the hogs lost a lot of their usefulness in raids.
Over all on attack I would say giant is by far the most useful troop, followed by the archer. Archer is also good on defense while the giant is not unless combined with wiz or archers (yes, I love putting one giant and the rest attack troops in my cc as I think it works great).

Different troops for different situations.
In attack, theres loot raiding and within that theres so many different scenarios! Elixir and gold raids, i use different troops as compared to de raiding. Storage raiding needs different troops too. Raiding for trophies require different troops too.
The only way i can see 'the most useful troop' will b to look at my history of troops used and requested and i thnk that will b archers.
