No, and if this is just a Golem 6, they wouldn't create a new Barracks level for it. You would just have it available under the Research Lab. If you qualify for the upgrade that is.
Sorry this game does not have any kind of economy.
Why have an air creature attack air defenses when it will take all the fire. Makes more sense for a ground creature to get that roll.

maybe it's a rider type like a kind of gargoyle/gremlin/flying thing... that throw fire doing spalsh dmg all around and then when golem die... he start to fly over like a minions and continue the chaos
