Read on for reducing clan clogging!!!

Supercell,

This is a serious request that is not really neccessary, but it would not require too mich code or time to make. It just makes life easier though :)

I suggest, if all the players in a clan are completley inactive (havent logged on once) for 21 days, the clan will automatically be disbanded (broken), and the people inside will be clan-less. This helps because there are less clans clogging up the search system, and this does not hurt people, as they must be inactive if they havent logged on for 21+ days, and thus, they dont care/wont know (hehe) that they are no longer in a clan.

This problem is like debt: The longer it goes on un-solved, the bigger the problem gets! Especially since the game has so many players that join new every day! Its best to eliminate the problem at the roots...

If you do not like my idea (im talking to other forumers now), please tell me why RESPECTFULLY! I have not provoked anyone by making this thread, so please do not start a flame war!

P.S: Edit: The time period for the clan to be deemed as inactive, and be disbanded, is open to debate! I have no probs in that... As long as it's not something ridiculous like 1 year!
3 weeks is just an EXAMPLE, and my personal opinion.

What if a clan has a vacation clan for players to put their accounts when they go away. What if, let's say, two people from the clan have their minis on there and just so happen to not go on it or talk in the clan, why do they deserve to get their clan destroyed? Besides, how much is this harming you? Sure when you hit "search for a clan" but they can just add an easier filter for searching for clans. Or you can search on here as you should know looking for a clan in game is counter productive and rarely turns out good :p

As I had stated earlier, this is not really necessary, but it will make life much easier for everyone to find good, active clans!

And as for your vacation clan, I have 3 objections:

1. What's the point of even making a clan and/or being in one if you or anyone else will not interact ie. Request, Chat, LOG ON? If you are not going to be playing the game due to a break, there is simply no need for you to be in a clan!

2. Having an "alternate clan" destroyed is not a devestating thing! Simply make a new one, OR live with it! If you are not active enough that you can't log on for 3 weeks (as I mentioned in my first post, this amount of time can be changed), there is no NEED for you to:

A. Be in a clan
B. Be devastated that you are not in a clan


3. It's not just one person: Read my first post again: I said if NO ONE in the clan logs on for a period of time, the clan will be disbanded!!!!

Im simply trying to get you to consider who this would negatively impact, if you can constructively fix that and tweak your idea around that, then good.

The basic principle of my idea I would like to keep (the no one logs on part), but other factors such as ;

-Time period of inactivity
-Number of Members
-What happened to the members

Etc. That's all open to debate, I'm fine with that. As long as my basic idea is implemented

I kind of look at your response with puzzlment. If a person is not online and active at all, why would they need to be in a clan? Its not like they are requesting troops.

A vacation clan is basically a feeder clan. If you know you cant be active for a war, you go visit your feeder clan for the week. No big deal.

What the OP is proposing is for a clan that is totally inactive, meaning NO_ONE has logged in for 21 days, the clan deletes, and the bases will go to the inactive pile anyway.

Some people to on vacation for more than a month so if supercell should add this they should make it like three seasons

It is not likely that an entire clan will be on vacation for a month at the same time....

Please understand i am not knocking the arguements, I think its a good topic and a good idea to discuss. I also think that these concerns do merit discussion.

Yes there are small 5-10 member clans which are all close family members, perhaps those FEW clans may run into a problem. But those would be the tiny exception, not the standard rule.

I find know you try to search a clan and a ton of names pop up some of whom are inactive. In response to a few people sending your account into a clan while on vacation makes no sense. Why do you need to be in a clan if you wont be online? I support this idea we can decrease clans with the same name.

Exactly,

Making the in-activity period longer, simply INCREASES the chance that the person is actually inactive. But if the period become too long, then there will be virtually no clans affected by this.

Put simply, 1 month (30 days) is a good, balanced amount of time. Most people don't take vacations of more than that at a time.. If they do, well then too bad for them 😜

Im gonna seem un-sympathetic with this one, but in my opinion, it's better to have 100 big, active, serious clans, rather than 100,000 small, in-active, hopper/troller containing clans. This is a great way to fish out those small clans that are clogging up our system. If a guy logs on, and finds he's not in a clan anymore, he can simply make one, or join a new one!

And as as for a huge trip, I again have to bring up the question: What's the NEED for you to be in a clan, if you will not be able to DO anything in the clan, perhaps even LOG ONTO the game?

We we don't NEED this, but isn't that the case with all of the OTHER ideas on this sub-forum? This isn't necessary, but it's a great idea which does not require much work from the SC side, and won't take much time either. This will really help a lot, and maybe even encourage people to be more active!

I think that the clan should not be disband but instead deemed inactive. if 90% of a clan has not logged on for 4 weeks (28 days) they get a tag beside there name saying INACTIVE. same for player if they have not logged on for 2-4 weeks they should be deemed inactive.

hmm, nice add-on, but that doesn't solve the main problem which is why I came up with this idea in the first place: Clan congestion. What you are suggesting isn't bad, but it keeps the clan, but simply stops anyone else from joining it (who wants to join an inactive clan). I want the clan to be disbanded, removed, non-existent. The 90% is a good idea, that's what I wanna talk bout, the fine details of the idea!

Disbanding, removing, labeling, penalizing, punishing, badging, etc., etc., all lead to others dictating how I should be playing the game. Something that nobody, other than maybe SC, has a right to do. No matter how hard you try, there is no way to fairily justify any of their use.

Removing the the clan simply cleans up the amount of clans that exist, and also encourage people to be more active! It's not a dictatorship: No one is putting a gun to their head and telling them that they HAVE TO play, it's their choice. If they don't, they just don't have a clan anymore. Also, it isn't a specific person, it's the WHOLE CLAN that has to be inactive in order for it to be disbanded!

Due to that, no harm will be done as any active players will have left the inactive clan long before it is disbanded. (Who wants to be in an inactive clan??!!)

No, not a dictatorship, but you would be dispensing consequences if I don't play/behave a certain way, in this case being to inactive. So once again, it is my choice to be inactive, for what ever reason, if I wish, and therefore should not be punished in any way.

Further, you are attempting to justify this idea be stating that every member needs to show a certain amount of inactivity. How does one determine the reason for another's inactivity and avoid punishing the innocent?

Look, its not quite a punishment. If you don't log on even once in a month, id say thats a serious case of inactivity! Having your clan disbanded is not a huge thing. Just join a new one! This idea will weed out duplicate and inactive clans!

Honestly, I think this would really irritate people. What if someone's wi-fi goes out and will take a long time to fix? Goes on a long vacation without wi-fi? Ect. As said, the clan has a right to exist as long as it hasn't been manually dis-banned by the leader.

We don't need to get rid of these clans. Supercell just has to improve the search results a bit.

Because getting rid of the clans tackles the problem at its roots! Improving the search results is a good idea, but it simply alleviates the problem, not solving it.

I do think that banning clans that are inactive would be harmful. It is a interesting idea though. And plus, it's going to be hard to ban clans if a few people get on every so often, so I assume you are directing the banning to clans with fewer members, because they have less people to get on every so often.

Anyways, I do not think banning clans is a good suggestion, I think that the search function should be improved upon, that way, it would be easier to find the clan you want to find.

This is a so logical suggestion, I cannot understand Supercell didn't make it since a very long time.


I often got a clan mate telling "check the X clan", only issue is that there are zillion of X clans but most of them are almost empty with only one or two inactive players.

The search clan function is really harmed by these crappy clans of player who didn't even play coc anymore.

Do a couple clan searches using somewhat common nouns... Bear, Time, etc...

You will find dozens of clans in each search with one person in them. This is a minor annoyance when trying to find a friend or a clan that you found on the forums that you may want to join etc... I suspect that this clog often prevents the search from revealing the clan you are really searching for even if you type the full name of the clan. I know that when I've had friends look for my clan so they could join it, that they sometimes have to do the search a couple of times before we show up because of the multitude of one person clans with the same name.

When a clan goes in active or starts to lose players because of various reasons, the active players leave and those that are left (or the one that is left) is a guy who quit the game, yet he and his one person clan continue to exist and show up on the search. This is only going to continue to get worse as the game matures because new people are always starting and existing players are always quitting.

Deleting these clans is one solution to this issue.

Another solution is have the system simply not show a clan in a search if it has been flagged as inactive.

Yes.
This is more directed towards the really small inactive clans, with a max of lets say, 5 members. If the search function is improved, then there is no need for this idea, but vice-versa. In my opinion though, this is better, because it removes the ROOT of the problem!

Its like the difference between relieving the symptoms for a bit, and removing the "disease", or "problem" altogether.

Exactly! This is EXACTLY why I came up with this idea! This will get rid of those clans that do nothing but sit there and take up space!

I will conclude my part in this discussion by saying that I fully understand your reasoning behind this idea, however, the fact remains that the basis behind your reasoning is of a personal nature/goal. For that reason alone, I cannot agree with any idea that would be affecting others.

It is not a personal goal! This will benefit EVERYONE who has problems finding a clan due to the thousands of inactive clans with 1 or 2 members. Of course, this will benefit me aswell, but that does not mean I am selfish!

No this wouldnt be a good idea.
What if you went on holiday with no wifi and no other means of playing coc.
Is there any problem if there are lots of inactive clans???
Its not like its affecting your clan in any way.

I never insinuated that you were being selfish, as having personal goals is not synonymous with selfishness. However, when attaining those goals by labeling others as insignificant you begin to walk a fine line between the two. Further, by having others rally behind you in no way removes that fine line, it merely means that those behind you are now walking it as well.

What game experience? We're talking about INACTIVE players, players who haven't even logged on for (x time, months perhaps) to empty collectors, and we're not even talking about individual players who haven't logged on, we're talking about whole clans who have not logged on.

If a clan is made up of one or two or even 10 players who haven't logged on in months, then deleting that clan would have no impact on their game experience because they don't HAVE a game experience. Sure if someone or perhaps several someones came back after being absent for this extended period of time they would find themselves with out a clan. It is a minor inconvience for them to be forced to reform their clan in this remote scenario.

Need is a strong word when applied to a cell phone / tablet game...

The need in this case is that legitimate, active players are being blocked from finding and joining legitimate, active clans because they can't find them. How many good players have been blocked from joining your clan because search results only show a page full of inactive, 1 and 2 player clans?

Do I need to somehow create a clan name with unique, uncommon words in order for people to find me? Yes, that's one of the tips on creating clans found in this guide: http://forum.supercell.net/showthrea...09#post2172309

According to this guide which is stickied in the clan talk forum: This is a legitimate problem and his proposed work around it to chose a name other than what you would normally want to chose.

Removing inactive, dead clans, would solve 80% of this issue. (the other 20% is the estimated number of remaining active clans after the dead wood has been cleared)...

The idea of removing a clan is not so good. As many have said before, there are many circumstances in which a clan may be forced into inactivity. Even if this were to be implemented, the clan search function wouldn't be improved by much, because the issue is a lot of somewhat active clans sharing the same name. This isn't going to help that.

I've made quite a few threads, and never bumped them because people will only respond to threads they want to. If it is stuck on page 11, that tells you that this idea is not very popular.

Why not? The issue is active clans sharing the same name, but the clans that are sharing the same name are mostly INACTIVE! And not inactive like logging on for a few minutes in a day, inactive like not logging on for 3 MONTHS!!!
Also, usually, these are clans with a maximum of 5 people. No active player will join this clan, thus, no harm will be done. How will an inactive player feel bad about their clan being disbanded due to the fact that they didn't play for a few months? They have no right to complain.

Also, this idea will encourage people to be more active in order to keep their clan from being disbanded.
Keep in mind that it only requires one person to log on within the clan to keep the clan alive. If even one person out of 50 (lets just say) logs on, the clan won't be disbanded. They don't even have to attack or anything, simply open up the app and let it load...

Yes you won't be able to get those inactive players back but in this case the system does you the favor of removing them. Exactly. Whats more is, that why would the leader even WANT to get those inactive players back. Those instances where the clan was by chance not able to be active, even if they wished to, are very very very rare. In that case, I'm sure the leader or a dedicated member can get the other players back together.

What a clan is made for
To keep friends in touch ... of course
To get more strong troops ... even
To fight the war ... surely

My proposal is simple, if a player does not connect for 20 days becomes inactive and no longer elegibile for war.

The war thing is up to the clan leaders in my opinion. The eliminate is also up to the leaders. But I think 1 week is farr too short of a time period. As I have said before, I think it should be atleast a month (30 days), but that can be adjusted. Personally I thought 3 weeks, but per discussion here, I now agree on 2-3 months. The clan members are not a variable. Of course, mostly this affects clans with 5 members or less, but the variable is wether atleast one member in the clan has logged on atleast ONCE during the defined grace period.... Regardless of the number of members.

Well I disagree. everyone should have the rights to have and stay in a clan. Even if they are inactive thats the basic principles of humans rights if they are inactive let them in a clan let them don't get some player to leave like an object. Some people will come back to COC and they will just play it so let them if they are inactive let them they aren't harming anyone so they're not creating any lag or some sort. And also you will just make another trouble because of COC constant update or maintenance people seem to get bored of it until now the new troop is drawing some old player in and make an inactive come back a little more active. If they start it some people will lose it and will stop playing it you will just cause another trouble instead of repairing it people here want useful updates not something that only work for certain people . And what will happen if they came back huh like a clan that's for all friends and then when they realize there's a new update and came back just to find that their clan been disband and what they will be mad plus how about a friend clan that's having a test they will decide to study then play a game. Think about it some clan have a good reason to be inactive. Anyway that's my opinion

I think deleting inactive clans will anger many people, automatically kicking inactive players out of the clan??? NO. Players has the right to stay in a clan, as long as they don't get kicked out of a higher ranking player. If this automatic kicker is put into use, then what would elder, co-leader, leader's kicking power be used for? Just because you're inactive doesn't mean there should be negative consequences towards you.

Firstly I would like to congratulate you on coming up with this idea.

I do strongly agree with this, how when you search for a clan, it is extremely hard to find some of these clans. I know for a fact how hard it is with my clan, sometimes we dont even pop up, that is how hard it gets!

But i also disagree with this idea, that it throws away the right of having a clan, inactive or active, a clan is clan that someone put effort too, what if they all came back and found out what supercell did to there clan, I know I would be heart broken.
What if you had an clan where all your holiday makers go while they are away, or just need a break. Take consecration for example (www.consecrationclan.weebly.com), they have there main clan and then consecration I.A where there inactives go. What happens to that?

Time could be discussed, but as stated before every player has the right of having a clan. Maybe if supercell some how monitor the active clans and stick them up the top and work there way down adding a 'load more' at the bottom.

To follow you up on the feeder clan issue, we have a feeder which is as active as our main clan, and has the same amount of members, a feeder isnt a clan where you can do whatever you wanted generally, it is a recruiting clan, where members can be transferred to the main if ever needed.

The arguements for this idea seem to contain ones opinion that they have the right to think and act for others. It is for this reason, and the "they have no right to complain" comment, that I will continue with my opposition. Further, that comment only serves to confirm the personal motivation behind the idea. If you don't play as often as 'I' think you should, you are of no consequence.

Why cant there be negative consequences for being inactive? Active leaders have always kicked out inactive members/non-donating members. If someone is inactive (as in hasnt played once in 3 months), there is no point of them even being in a clan. What will they do?

So are u saying if u haven't been on for three week u will be kicked from the clan u in . If so that is bad idea because what I'd u go on vacation and let ur clan know u will be gone for let's says 3 and a half week and there okay with that then u come back with a message saying u have been kicked from ur clan and then u try to join again and it's full. I think ur idea needed a little changing I think we should have it if the leaders not on for 2 weeks it give it to the every first co that was in the clan so that the clan sill can go on

You dont understand my idea. Its not that you will be kicked from the clan *rolls eyes*. If no one in the clan logs on for a month or two, even ONCE, then the CLAN will be disbanded...

You were able to defeat the last concern I had with this idea so:
AFter you've answered my concern I can support this, but what if that clans just put on the search for clan list, where people join and leave because no one has really spoke for weeks even though people have constantly come and go essentially making that clan more active then it really is:p Does the activity of the clan define where they are on the list? Because that would make the whole problem of finding s clan way better!

Hmmm... Thats actually a good point! But then again, who would want to join a clan with <5 members? I cannot answer that... You have me stumped 😊, someone please feel free to join in this discussion
