I am trying to get dark elixir for my lvl 2 barbarian king. I am th 7 and have one level 9 barracks. I prefer to not use dark troops. What's the best strategy to get dark elixir from storages that are near or close to the middle without just zapping it?
I got my bk to lvl 5 by using barch with 9 wall breakers. I used spell also to get into the core. 2 rage and 1 heal.
My army composition consist of 9 lvl 2 dragons and 20 lvl 4 archers. 3 lvl 4 lightning spells, BK and wizards/archers for CC. Yeah, its a ♥♥♥♥ load of elixirs being used but if you were strictly going for DE hunting and disregard everything else this is the composition that I used to great effect.
Get yourself into Crystal 3(by TH sniping up if you must) so any stars obtain will net you 50 DE's from the loot bonus. The dragons can be used if you run into a strong TH with lots of DE's. Archers for TH sniping. Lightning spells for zapping storages or taking out an AD to deploy your dragons. You want to get to 2000 trophies and then drop yourself into 1950's where I find it the sweet spot for good DE's raiding.
If you fear that people are going to rage revenge on you because you zap their DE's, you could avoid a revenge by not picking up trophies. However doing this more then a few times can really demote you out of Crystal 3.
You don't want to be using drags for DE hunting that's probably the worst advice I've seen save your elixir and play smart, just put your barracks & spell factory on boost and use archers and lightning then th snipe to crystal but on your way scan every base for those DE drills especially the ones that are on boost those are what you want to go for with archers as they are mainly outside of walls or not as protected, obviously there's a lot more DE in the storage vaults but they are always protected so lighting them when you can but only if amount is a minimum 1.5k DE otherwise it's a waste of spells but those drills all add up especially when there on boost and the higher you go trophy wise the more you will find
Simplest way is to snipe your way up to Crystal using a full BArch composition. Along the way pick off DE drill and possibly exposed DE storages.
i know u said that u dont like using dark troops but by using baloonian i got my bk to five and my minions to 2 in one day
TH snipe up to at least 1600+ trophies and use Barch for outside drills or easy to access DE storage. Don't be shy to always carry lightning spell and zap those 1000+ DE storages. As soon as I got the Barbarian King I started farming for DE to get him to lvl 5. Only took 4-5 days. Now I just got to TH 8 a few days ago and I'm currently upgrading him to lvl 8 using that method. Once in a while you'll be lucky enough to find easy 2k+ DE raids.

wb for funneling
spread fast barb in 2 line of 1 side of enemy base
spread archer follow the barb
wb as needed to make your way close to the storage
keep an eyes for your barb in the front line and immediately send another barb before they die
once your troop aim for de storage, drop rage and spend the rest of your troops

I m also th7 nd getting DE is not very hard! Just get to trophy range 1500! I used wiz gaints archer nd wallbreakers! Take 2 heal nd 1 rage!
There r many th9 nd th10 noobs who keep there DE storage behind 1 or 2 layers of wall! Just use the 2 heal to get near the storage nd rage the wiz for the awseoem DE!

Best option what i find for myself
--- zap strategy ---
1. go to 1800-1900 (gold 1) trophy range
2. make 3 lighing spells (1,5 hours)
3. find TH9-10 farmer base with ~2000DE
4. Zap 3 lighting on it, and take ~800DE with 1 star
at same time
--- army strategy ---
1. make 8 dragons + 40 archers (around 1 hour)
2. find base with DE storage with ~700DE & bad AD around it (dont froget about air targeted X-bows)
3. Clear path with 40 archers, drop dragons and destroy storage, make at least 1 star (50%) if possible
4. dont use spells
supplement with zapping and just barch a lot. be patient
