It's kinda useful vs bases that don't protect the outside buildings with splash damage, like badly designed bases, or a few in champs (but not many, in my experience). And for sniping TH. But most will agree that, from TH7-TH10, at pretty much all trophy counts, using at least one third of your army on barbs is much better - the exact best % depends on what types of bases you are hitting most often most farmers use over 50% barbs, whereas trophy pushers often use 33% barbs.
p.s. all archers is actually quite expensive, especially if you are using lightning spells. I tried it a bit in masters, and lost trophies as well as elixir... now I sometimes use 2 golems and the rest archers, with some lightning spells, and find that makes plenty of elixer and also wins a lot more.
Good for pushing on TH 8s and below and farming (only collector raids) on any base. For storage raids BARCHis better.
