Spying, SuperCell Finding a solution is Easy, Why dont u do this EASY FIX

Just fought a clan who sent a spy, obviously the spy wasnt in the war, so we had no way of knowing he was from the other clan


But whats even more funny is they thank the spy on their website

They call themselves Iranianheroes

SC needs to do something,

Its alittle messsed up when we are discussing attack strategies and theres a spy

SC needs to step up their game

Add a section in the profile that shows the last 5-10 clans that person joined

To bypass that , That person would have to join and leave a bunch of clans, in a short time, which would be a red flag, that its a possible spy

Here's a question for you. Why do you let people in during a war knowing full well that some clans send spies?

Until this is implemented, you could try closing your clan during wars.

Can't you return the favour by doing the same. Besides it's your fault for keeping the can open. Always keep your clan closed. By the way SC can't do ANYTHING to stop the guys NOT in the war.

How about you can't join the enemy clan during prep and war day. As long as you have been a member of the clan for more than 24 hours you won't be able to join regardless if you are included in the line up or not.

but, these things are easy to bypass, they could just send someone from a feeder clan to spy.

Im sure Supercell were very aware of it when they released clan wars, and did not try to fix it. So it's clearly a strategy that is accepted. Close your clan, or do not let anyone in during wars.

Nope, not morally wrong.
You can still recruit people and sort out strict joining, such as a password, so only people you invite can get in. You are not allowed to talk about ghosting here, either PM a mod or staff member and report the clan you think ghosting (remember you must provide evidence, false accusations can get you into just as much trouble). Children are irrelevant. This is war, and spying has always been a method.

Everything has a disadvantage, maybe we should remove inferno towers because they damage troops, and remove gems because they boost someone. Maybe we should remove troops cuz they deal damage, and thats a disadvantage.

There's already an easy fix. Simply Close your clan right before starting a war and keep it closed during the War.

Spying doesn't actually so anything. Especially on war day, the opposition can't really change base layout to cater for your attack strategy. The only thing they can steal is your defencive weaknesses ie where you have and haven't got traps. All in all, a good base layout will prevail and more importantly, you only lose if you mess up an attack!

Supercell know about this, its obvious they won't fix it, If you were smart enough then you would either set your clan to closed or invite only, Spying is a legit strategy, whether you like it or not.

And what if the player hasn't ever been in your opponent's clan? Do as a prior poster already suggested and close your clan.

Sadly the only thing to do is just be careful. For all those people saying "close your clan" you have to think a little bit before you post stuff like that as it makes no sense. It makes no sense because many clans (like my current clan) war non-stop so if you close the clan you never have the chance to get new members. When people ask to join I look first to see if they were from the other clan as I have remembered all their names, I then look to see if they if they have any cool down left in their last war, and if that looks ok I hit accept. I then quickly ask for an introduction and see what happens from there. If it feels fishy I boot quickly, if not, oh well we'll see what happens.

I think there are much more important things for SC to worry about at this time when it comes to in game, but I do hope one day down the line something can be done about this. For many clans there is no way to just close the clan because we're always going.

On the bright side, when the spies do enter (which has happened with us as you can never truly tell and so many people have second accounts or just use friends) and they still lose, it makes the win that much better!

Sure it makes sense and it works. We've warred non-stop since Clan Wars' inception and have never left our clan open since our clan was first created. It has never prevented me from recruiting or adding new players to the clan. You just have to think a bit. In the long run, your clan will be much better off by properly vetting new members.

It amazes me that people bother to spy. Usually you can guess pretty well where teslas and traps are. What ever solution is presented it has its limitations and would be easily avoided so it would not really prevent spying so why bother?

If SC wants to dramatically reduce the amount of spying going on, all they need to do is make it so that spectators cannot view trap placements.

I'm not sure how I feel about spying. I actually find it all rather amusing, and maybe SC does, too.

Spying is part of the clan war and I think Supercell intentionally made this possible.

If Supercell wanted to avoid spying, they would simply make the clan war view only possible to those members that participate, or reduce the displayed data (dont show the Content of the warbases and do not show the traps on the map). The chat and war log may also be interesting, but the real information is the content of the warbases and the position of the traps. Filming this information from the tablet only takes about 3 minutes.

spying is part of a war strategy... u just gotta make sure u catch the spy before he succeeds...

being lazy in war will get u killed...

first, OP: adding a list of recent clan memberships wont fix the problem. They want to spy, then they will just make an alt accnt and float it specifically for wars.

Next: rather than closing the clan, set it to invite only. People can request to join so you wont prevent potential new members if your an all war all the time clan.

Last: a spy is not really a big deal. if you suspect someone is a spy, boot them. If you think you got spied on, have your peeps redesign the war bases right before battle day. It doesnt even need to be a major redesign. Just reverse the base, or switch a few big bombs and teslas or something.

I don't think spying is considered a problem that needs to be fixed by SC. If you don't want spies in your clan, just don't let them in.

BUT - if they did consider it a problem, the fix would be easy. Simply make all traps and what's in CC's invisible to anyone who isn't in the current war in a clan. Similar to the way no one that is in the current war can donate to CC's.

We are an all vegan clan. A group of friends who only accept other vegans into the clan. There is not much recruiting you can do here on forums or anywhere else, it is mostly just getting people who are searching keywords in the clan search. Same with our last clan of 50 which was always full.

We are not all war clans that have a huge forum presence like you and others. People always seem to forget here on forums that we are a tiny fraction of the clashers out there and just because it works for a few clans here, that means nothing for everyone else out there.

Closing the clan isn't an option for us. Period.

Why war all the time? Obviously not everyone in your clan wants to, you must lose some members every war...or you would have a full 50 members, and never get new people. At which point spying would be a moot point.

We tell ppl its a daily war clan, so if they dont want to war they dont join,

we got about 30-35 on avg in the clan

Its a very active clan, ppl always leave and come back when they got important stuff to do n cant war

But everyone always attacks in war

Since ppl who join know what they are getting into, we only lose ppl which is rarely is when we boot them for inactivity

But spying when we are against a good clan, makes a big difference, especially when by tough its clans with 50+ war wins which having 60+ war wins is quite frequent

I have a feeling most in here talking trash and giving dumb suggestions like close the clan to stop spies,

dont have a good clan

or atleast they are not constantly fighting other clans with 55+ war wins

With us at 62 wins, when he fight someone hard, it comes down to the wire, and spying gives a HUGE advantage for knowing how the enemy is acting and their state of mind...... this is all crucial information in tough wars

It seems most of u havent actually fought in a tough war against good active clans

That war where they spied. We both had used all available attacks FYI and came down to coordinating, thus the enemy knew how many stars we thought we could get and planned around that info. They basically adjusted to our plans everytime

If u think clan wars is just about traps and cc and thats all a spy can get and use, u obviously havent been to the big leagues yet of clan wars, where it takes more than all drags or all hogs to win, where it takes coordinating ur attacks and maxing stars, while knowing who will attack who, Knowing what ur enemy will do is crucial, and thus spying is not legit, cause why would SC legitimize poor sportsmanship behavior....its a game, not actual war.

Sorry but, that just about sums it up!

As has been mentioned already, you are asking SC to label all players who migrate from clan to clan for reasons other than spying, as potential spy's. The suggestions you dismiss so readily are in use by other clans, some of which have win records exceeding yours.

I don't see this as something SC needs to take corrective action on because it's part of the game. Let's look at it from a consistency standpoint--war hoppers join clans with the specific intent of depriving them of a couple attacks in a given war. So they are joining under false pretenses and with malicious intent.

Spies are no different. They join under false pretenses to help their own clan. You can take simple measures to ensure that this does not happen. Every single new member I get during war needs to be vouched for by the person who invited them when they join or they get kicked. We war closed, but leaders can still open the clan for recruits we find in global.

And the chances of finding someone in English global that you're at war with are slim to none. Especially finding their alt account.

At any rate, SC doesn't need to be changing the system when your clan can solve its own problems by adopting better best practices. SC doesn't need to be in the business of holding your hand so you can properly manage your clan at war.

Wanting SC to do something about this is ridiculous. You just have to be reasonably careful about who you let in. For example, don't let someone in if they ask to come in unless they were invited and someone will vouch. This is just another instance where people with poorly managed clans want SC to give them a handicap when there are better run clans who are handling these issues for themselves.

How to solve your problem:
1) Close your clan permanently
2) Recruit members through one or more active feeder clans that also do Clan Wars (added bonus: you get to test new recruits in actual wars before taking a risk with a new guy in your main clan)
3) Invite people directly from your feeder clan without ever opening your clan
4) Spy on your opponent if you can (optional step)

We do all steps, although we only use 4 when we think we will have difficulties in war and the other clan lets someone in.

Do some "vegan talk" with the new member right after you accept him. Things that only real vegans will understand. If he is a spy, chances are he is not a vegan and you can figure that out in a few minutes.

as a clan we were doing very well until we lost a few on the bounce. it wasnt all down to spying but it was a concern. then i accepted someone to the clan not knowing they were a spy. we got done big time. so we thought we would join them(cus we obviously didnt beat them). we have a member that has 2 account and they are both in good standing so she goes and spys. we also use an app called line where we have a group(our clan) and then we share the images of the war bases. also she keeps us updated of their strat. #

all in all im not sure if it benefits us. i suppose it only can. but if the other clan are good attackers then it will be close.

if i was you(OP) i would quit complaining and get on with it.

i assume you are an adult and if you drive you have more than likely broken the speed limit. if so then did you get caught. if not did you fine yourself. loop holes are the and always will be. learn to live with them cus if they close one another will open. then you will just be complaining about something else.

But then again, a few minutes is all someone needs to spy on bases, especially when they only want a couple of pics. Also, what about when no one accepts someone for a while? The person won't respond immediately or the person might have joined another clan, causing vegan clan to miss someone that they can relate to

We do this as well as other things... like I said I am not complaining myself personally nor do I think SC should focus much effort into something against spying now as there are other things that need work first. All I'm saying is that people telling other clans to keep their clans closed is short sighted and solves nothing for many who war non-stop and don't use forums.

edit... also what Sirix above me said... this is why we keep ours on invite all the time and just hope for the best if we do accept someone.

It's not a problem for SC to fix, spying happens in real life too, look at NSA.

One thing you can do to prevent this is by using the "Invite Only" option, you rigorously interview the applicant and if he/she does not respond quick, give them the boot.

I also agree with your later point, most people who have responded doesn't know what they are talking about. I have my own clan with 30 Clan War wins. I would hate to lose my war due to spying.

As other said, you could close the clan during the war and reopen when it ends, simple as that.

Close the clan during war and reopen when war ends, problem solve... and stop complaining.

We use a Feeder clan. This ist the best solution anyway. Nobody can access the clan directly except for People that have friends in the clan.

Yep my clan is a terrible and obscure one which no one has ever heard of and contains no members of any consequence. :rolleyes:

While closing a clan is a good idea while you are warring it isn't necessarily needed. As long as your clan is set to invite only you can check and see if the person requesting to join is part of the enemy clan. My clan does this to make sure we don't have spies come in. It's pretty simple and if the leaders of your clan are on the same page you should have no problem keeping spies out of your clan.

Do what our clan did and change traps/teslas, whoever attacks my base who had spied on me already will be in for a surpise when all traps are in the center.

Invite them in, call them out and talk some good natured smack. let them take their pictures, then give them a few troops before sending them on their way.

Then beat their clan.

I am in an active war clan and I agree that closing the clan is not an option.
The best solution is probably new recruits should not have access to see bombs and traps until the current war is over.

who cares...its a game, had this happen once and I had fun kicking out the other teams member...then destroying them, quit asking for help...just win.

The ONLY possible solution is to not allow unknowns into your clan during war.

It's a simple thing to have an alt account, which is completely unassociated with your war account.

I'm anti spying. It's basically c h e a t i n g.

I think there should be a change, but only to the extent that spectators can't see trap, tesla locations and cc contents. I'm not in favour of this clan history.

If you have to use spies it just shows you are too weak to win fairly. It says more about the clan that uses spies than anything else.

Closing the clan does solve the problem, but it hurts recruitment. Anyone that blames a clan for not closing should never get a job working with victims of crime. Telling them they had it coming probably isn't the ideal route to take.

I tried it a few times. There was a fun aspect to it. But I really did not find it gave me any advantage worth the effort of doing it.

We usually don't just because it isn't worth it. But it did happen that our last war had guys from both sides trying to sneak (one side tried something, then the other side tried something back, and so forth it went...). It was all done in good spirit and with the good natured banter that was part of it (heck, I was telling one guy what he should be noting and getting pictures of and to let me know when he was done) there was a fun aspect to the added method of competing. But it was nothing more than an amusing sideshow to the actual war which was a good hard fought battle on both sides.

If you get past the feeling that someone pulled a prank on you, you get to the point that it really did not matter much.

If its still bugging you and this is feasible..... move a giant bomb or two after a spy passes through. They only need to get hit by one difference on one base to cast doubt on all scouting or screen shots they have.

I have a feeling most in here talking trash and giving dumb suggestions like close the clan to stop spies,

dont have a good clan

or atleast they are not constantly fighting other clans with 55+ war wins

With us at 62 wins, when he fight someone hard, it comes down to the wire, and spying gives a HUGE advantage for knowing how the enemy is acting and their state of mind...... this is all crucial information in tough wars

It seems most of u havent actually fought in a tough war against good active clans

That war where they spied. We both had used all available attacks FYI and came down to coordinating, thus the enemy knew how many stars we thought we could get and planned around that info. They basically adjusted to our plans everytime

If u think clan wars is just about traps and cc and thats all a spy can get and use, u obviously havent been to the big leagues yet of clan wars, where it takes more than all drags or all hogs to win, where it takes coordinating ur attacks and maxing stars, while knowing who will attack who, Knowing what ur enemy will do is crucial, and thus spying is not legit, cause why would SC legitimize poor sportsmanship behavior....its a game, not actual war.

Spying is poor sportsmanship, which in most sporting industries spying is illegal. ITS A GAME NOT REAL LIFEA game (video or sport) is all about sportsmanship which spying goes directly against

ALSO What can SC do How will they know he/she is a spy. I have an alt which is atm clanless. It is not in my clan neither has it been. So how will they know.


Let me guess, your reply would be all accounts should be linked. SC should IP link all accounts so even alts cant enter.


What about friends then. SC should appoint spies in real life who track you, so you cant use it to spy.

How is it ♥♥♥♥♥ing? You are just as capable of spying as the other clan. SC shouldn't be in the business of holding your hand. If your leaders and elders can't take reasonable precautions against spies, if you get spied on, that's on you and no one else. We've had the other side attempt to spy. They have never been successful because we don't take random people who ask to join during war. To further alleviate this, we are working on a feeder clan which will send us 100% of our new recruits all trained up, familiar with our war tactics and ready to jump in to any spot which might come open in the main clan.

If you use spies, it just shows that you are willing to do what it takes to get every possible advantage at war. And really, with war, there are only winners and losers and nothing else matters, right?

As far as closing the clan goes, that's a good way to handle things. Yeah, you're not going to have any randos joining your clan, but elders and cos can still go out into global and find people. Any co can change it to invite only or open. This is not really a valid complaint.

The Persians who attacked you used a war strategy by sending in their spy, so how do you counter that:

1. As every1 kindly suggested, close the clan for two days / make a feeder clan, keep few of your trusted members there with the clan being open.
2. If the above thing doesn't work, make sure all of your members are gonna hit their attacks on the war opponents, that way all f you can contribute in 3 *** a base, Yay!;)

We usually don't just because it isn't worth it. But it did happen that our last war had guys from both sides trying to sneak (one side tried something, then the other side tried something back, and so forth it went...). One of members frequently attempts to spy, just for the fun of it (and to eavesdrop on what our opponent has to say about us, which we all want to know).

I don't care whether SC takes steps to curb spying (hiding traps from spectators) or not.

I'm not against spying but I also wouldn't have a problem if SC decided to prevent spying somehow like preventing spectators from seeing traps.

Spectators are usually newcomers to the clan or low TH/trophy players so it doesn't matter too much if they can't see the traps, or if the clan wants them to see it, they can send pics for defense advice, not that those are given commonly I think. Some stronger members who left/rejoined the clan to sit out won't be able to help out but some people don't feel like spectators are part of the clan war so that isn't a big issue either

We won the war anyway, but honestly it was so distasteful. In future wars, whenever we fought an 'Open' clan we thought about the spying but we remembered how it felt when we were spied on and all our bases were publicly exposed; I must say that it DOES feel morally wrong. So if it feels wrong, it is wrong. We therefore never do it, as we believe we can win without it. As for closing the clan, I agree with Ultraelite that it makes recruiting super difficult, so I really don't like that option either.

But despite my aversion, in the real world spying is a major part of war, and is looked upon quite favorably by history (e.g., when they broke the German Enigma code; spies were considered heros).

Any action that gains a player knowledge they are not intended to have, and gives said player an unfair advantage over another by exploiting oversights in game design, is ♥♥♥♥♥ing.
Its no different than ghosting because it makes troop pathing prediction easier, and may alter what troop composition you decide to use.
Its no different than duping because players who do this can potentially gain a greater amount of resources than others.

If sc wanted to investigate, they could check for players that have repeatedly joined clans opposing a clan suspected of using spies.

This is a game about war. Of course there will be spies, and security measures taken to prevent them (by clan leadership).

It's because people normally can't see traps but they always can if they join the clan the person is in. That's something people could have always done when revenging and stuff. How do you know it's not intended and what makes it an unfair advantage? Everyone can do it and it doesn't abuse a bug in the game. As explained in the top point, people could have always done this for revenge and other purposes

It is different since SC has actively taken measures to reduce this. However, SC has never expressed interest to stop spying so they don't view it as a problem

Just because doing something can help people get more resource than others don't make it duping. That's a pretty big leap in conclusion because you didn't duplicate anything. You just attacked higher using more knowledge

Spying takes away some of the fun and quite a bit of the challenge. You should have to learn the location of bombs, traps, and teslas by watching war raids from your clanmates. That's part of the fun... I attack and maybe get two stars. Then a clanmate studies my attack, learns more about the base that is being raided, and then uses that knowledge to hopefully grab an additional star. Why should we learn the insides and out of opponents' bases before the war even begins? Personally, I think spying shows a lack of faith in your raiding ability.

Looks to me like Supercell did provide a fix for the spying issue when they introduced 3 saved war bases with the recent update. Now you can have one war base shown for 23:59 hours of prep day and swap over to the real base at the last minute. For all those constant war clans that can't seem to close their clan now you can keep your clan open til the last minute of prep day.

Why does there need to be a solution? Take reasonable precautions during war. This has never happened to my clan.

Never thought about that... if you are able to be on-line at 23:59, that's a great idea. However, not everyone has 24 hour access to their game. But this adds yet another way to deter spies.

The obvious fix to spying is to close your clan during war. For one reason or another there are always some clan that won't close their clan in war and then come on the forum to complain about spying.

They didn't know spying is possible and the fact that there are clans that will abuse it. Not everyone reads the forum.

Closing the clan is not a fix, it's a preventive measure that will restrict recruitment for many clans.

If you are rolling in new guys all the time and right away starting wars with them you have bigger problems than just a few spies sneaking in here and there. Clan hoppers must be hurting you a lot.

You can solve more than one problem if you set up a feeder where guys join and wait until they can come to war clan (which will stay closed). Also advised you make a guy sit out at least one full war or better yet 4-5 days before they can move to the war clan to fight with the rest of you. That will filter out all of the clan hoppers (they are the ones that were not willing to wait) and the spies (they also don't want to wait in a clan that doesn't allow them a peek) You can plan when guys are coming over (do it near the end of a war so you are ready to fire off the next right away), and your farm clan can be open all the time.

Also showing decoy bases during prep day can help you. Let the spies take their screen shots of those. make them look not that different from real base, just move traps around a bit so later the attacker doesn't know until too late that the screen shot is giving him bad info.

A recent spy story to cheer you up - The war that just ended our opponent sent all his hogs right into a GB trap that was not there during prep day when we got 'our visitor', who we knew was a spy but we let him screen shot all of our decoys before he parted with an obscene comment. My whole clan knew what was going on and we were watching it live and it was so freaking funny to watch. One moment a 30 hog attack then poof, nothing. After that there was a good 45 seconds of no troops being dropped then a surrender. My big bummer is that I wish I could have seen his face.

This may distress you to have me say it but I don't think spying is morally wrong. In fact I think its a fair and legitimate part of the game because it can be done using the game software as it stands. (no ♥♥♥♥ing or 3rd party tricks needed) I myself do not spy not because I think its wrong but instead because I think its a stupid waste of time. I don't think it gives me much if anything more than I get from just doing good base analysis. Our clan is winning just fine without it so why should we do a lot of extra and unnecessary work?

You seemed to be saying though that you are a serious and successful war clan so if you are winning are spies really hurting you? If you are winning then maybe there is not such a disadvantage. You are just feeling more moral outrage than maybe you need to.

Why don't you guys just simply close clan when on clan wars? Or perhaps stop allowing unknown people enter your clan during wars by putting on invite only. Personally, our clan closes down clan so that only war players can work up on strategies and cut down the risk of spying.

Spying is indeed grievous since traps are imp part of bases.Imagine a person getting a screenshot of base,he can plan the whole attack and go with the side where he faces no traps.Or i believe gowiwi/pe will be so easy knowing the traps.
Supercell will fix this soon i believe since they constantly work up(cheers for that).

Great idea! You should post. The stupid ADs are always taking out my healers, I hate it. They should make it so only my ADs (ok, yours too) will take out healers.

Exactly, but mistakes happen... I would like to see war eligibility be increased by a day so on the off chance of a clan forgetting to close and allowing an opposing clan member in, if they were/are part of war, they would not be eligible to participate. I know a lot of clans have extra members and a non participant in war can still try to spy with no "penalty", but still if someone were a part of the war and they spy, it'd be nice to see they can't attack.

SC benefits from clans going to war. SC would probably benefit from preventing spies too because spies are likely to stress some clans about war which helps push them to not war. I doubt that the ability to spy pushes much clans to war.

Points all taken. I guess I just don't see spying as wrong, just another facet of the gamesmanship. SO I defend against it and even do some games of my own to mess with the spies.

I don't spy because I just don't think its that useful. A colossal waste of time in my eyes. Too much work for too little gained, and even can burn ones own self doing it.

I don't see spying as wrong either (I am the spy of my clan :p). Overall, the game play would be more enjoyable if people stop being up on their guard all the time. Also they'll be able to visit the other clan and chat any time they want (if accepted in) instead of hiding from the outside world.

And speaking of visiting other clans, it also gives people the war chat they want with a greater control (assuming it's invite only) over the chat by simply kicking abusive visitors. There might be problems with clans sending abusive messages with request to join but I rarely see the other clan try to visit us to talk away so I'm not sure how big of a problem this would be
