Clan Administrative Tool: Warnings for Offending Members

I did a quick search and couldn't find anything like this, but if I missed it, let me know.

This suggestion won't be for everyone to use, but everyone will definitely benefit from more streamlined and cooperative clans.

Almost every clan has a few members who are less than perfect. Some don't contribute troops, some disregard requests for troops, don't get a rank with the new season, and any number of small (or larger) annoyances.

As it is, Clan leaders have only one recourse besides "kick" and that is to either post a general (or specific) clan message shaming the offender(s), or leave a message in the chat hoping that they'll see/read/abide by it.

Firstly, there's no guarantee that they'll even see it, let alone read it. Secondly, other leaders may not be aware of any verbal punishment or warnings.

I propose that clan leaders be able to post donation restrictions on members, (either no donating, and/or no requesting for a certain period of time, and/or until a donation ratio is met/maintained.

The member will be made aware of any warnings (along with a private message explaining the offense, and if imposed, any restrictions) as will leaders, upon logging in. Leaders will be able to see how many warnings have been issued and for what reasons.

All of this will aid in clans maintaining only those members who are active and cooperative, as well as give some intermediate discipline before resorting to kicking members. It will also assist Leaders in making judgements on when it is appropriate to kick a clan member.

Leaving a clan will remove the mark, but if the player rejoins, it will be visible again to clan leaders.

Wonderful. Maybe the leader (not cos) could see how many warnings people have. When you click "clan" in your clan castle you see everyone's names. Maybe next to donations it could say "warnings: 0" 0 being a variable.

Maybe not, but I think a good argument could be made that people without leadership skills (and the clans they might lead) will be no worse off for having these additional skills. Co-leaders should be able to see the warning marks, because they are co-leaders. Anyone not responsible enough to help manage the clan should not be made Co.

While you are correct that clans with active quality leadership would not be hindered by one of these often requested nanny tools I do have two problems with them. The first is the concept of the tool in a game like this. You want it to exist as a way of changing player behavior. "If you don't donate more we won't let you receive any." or "If you don't participate in the war we will boot you." are just ways to make somebody leave so you don't have to feel like a bad guy because you booted them. 99 times out of 100 the player is not going to change because it is easier to go find a different clan that isn't bothered by their play. The real tragedy here is that by trying to be nice to the person who is unwilling to follow the rules you are being mean to your dedicated members by not sticking up for them. If they are a problem just get rid of them. A tools for incremental punishment only works if it is not easier to leave.

Second (and more tangible), there are a number of things that would have a very positive impact on the game that the developers should be spending their time on. While your suggestion would not hurt clans with quality leadership it would also not improve the game. It would actually detract from the game by providing weak leaders tools to be even weaker, thus hurting their clan even more.

The goal is to change player behavior, yes. Providing small consequences has been shown to influence player behavior. Ideally, every problem player would change, but life is not ideal. This would aid as a step between trying to talk to them, and kicking them from the clan.

Again, this is every players choice. If a player does not realize (due to not reading clan messages, or not seeing messages in clan chat) then it is a bit harsh for their first real warning to be a swift boot. At the same time, letting them linger with no repercussions to get their attention allows the whole clan to suffer. Your arbitrary statistic is not at all reflective of many of the players in the game.

The real tragedy here is that by trying to be nice to the person who is unwilling to follow the rules you are being mean to your dedicated members by not sticking up for them. If they are a problem just get rid of them. A tools for incremental punishment only works if it is not easier to leave.

This suggestion would allow the clan leaders to stick up for the other clan members! That's the whole point! it would protect them from improper and irresponsible donations, while making the violator very aware of the problem and the future repurcussions. It's an information tool.

As I have pointed out above, there is no reason this would be a problem for either responsibly managed clans, or even irresponsibly managed ones. If a clan has bad leadership, eventually the players will realize it and leave for a well run clan, and/or create their own. None of these repercussions would follow a player into a different clan, so I see no reason it would be bad in any way. If I have missed something, please let me know.

If you have played any significant volume of video games that allow interaction with other people you would know that my arbitrary stat is completely true. The conduct of people who don't care how they treat others is never more apparent than when they assume the role of keyboard commando. Their conduct is impossible to change because it is easier for them to move on. The people who care about how they treat other people are hardly ever an issue. A utility like this would serve almost no purpose at all while taking up a bunch of the developer's precious time. Time they have already sworn as a company to never spend. SC will not themselves, nor will they let anybody else tag/flag/label any player with a negative statistic no matter what it is disguised as.

Ding ding ding.

I really wish people would quit trying to "brand" others who happen to play or act a certain way that is contrary to them. It's your clan. Grow a pair and kick them if you don't like what they are doing. The developers need to be adding new buildings, troops, and play mechanics. Not adding clan micromanagement features for 12 year olds.
