[Noel Hog Tutorial 101] My Hog Rider Attack Strategy Guide

Dear Clashers,

I am no hog guru, just another clasher that loves to use hog rider to raid, especially for clan wars. I will like to share my hog rider attack strategy on 3 starring TH9s and TH10s.

All my tutorial are post update, which means heroes are no longer lure-able.

First lesson here is how to hog a TH9 with a anti-hog base layout:

Some key points to take note:

1) Always scout for possible giant bombs location, trigger them early with a hog or a barb if possible. (Best to skip bases with many 'double giant bombs ambush', unless you can trigger at least one of them first. Heal spells are useless against 2 x newly buffed giants bombs. (2 x level one giant bombs are able to kill a maxed hog instantly now)

2) Do not be stingy on the number of hogs for the first wave. Use a heal spell if necessary, luring the CC cleanly and breaking the defense ring is very crucial.

3) If you are unsure whether your second wave of hogs will go into the core, drop one or two hogs to 'test water' before releasing the whole group.

4) Deploy your CC troops and heroes strategically to distract defense buildings and take out enemy's heroes early. (Especially Archer Queen, if they are non-centralized)

I will highly recommend at least level 4 hogs against TH9s. For spells - at least level 5 heal.

Level 5 hogs will be optimum because the increase in dps and hitpoints are great.

Some of my clannies which were previously using level 4 hogs can 3 star a maxed TH9.

The key to perfecting the art of hogging a TH9 largely depends on spell timing and placement in my opinion.

Welcome to lesson 2 of my hog tutorial.

This time I will be hogging a TH10 with centralized heroes and both its inferno on single mode. Not recommended for TH9s due to their handicap of one less spell.

Some key points to take note:

1) Always try to find the shortest route to get your hogs to the inferno. Motive is to take down the inferno in the fastest possible time as they deal the most damages to your hogs. Skip bases that has a defense ring, because you will have to break the ring before you can get inside the core.


2) Spells usage are pretty objective, highly dependent on base layout. I would recommend at least 3 heal spells, the other two can be made up of either heal, rage or freeze.


3) Try to scout for giant bombs location, trigger them with a barb or hog early if possible.


4) Deploy your heroes strategically to distract defense building, in order to provide cover for your hogs.


5) Lady luck do plays a part in the end result of the raid. Centralized heroes will keep eliminating your surviving troops until your troops take them out. (That's where your witches come into play, their skeletons will keep them occupied while your other troops or heroes can take them out.)

6) Do avoid centralized heroes that are too high leveled, I will normally skip bases with centralized heroes of level 20 and above. (There are actually ways or methods in which you can tackle high level heroes in core which I will cover more in details in my future videos.)

Box base is a very popular and common TH10 Trophy base / Clan War base design.

The purpose of sharing this video is to give you a rough idea on how to go about hogging a box base. This raid was done by one of my fellow clan-mate Alucard from Nakama CK during one of their clan wars. He does not have high level heroes and his freeze spell was only level 3 during that raid!!!

Do take note that by duplicating every steps in the video does not necessary guarantee you 3 stars because of the differences in the position & levels of the various buildings, traps and heroes.

Some decent tips here. I myself use hogs quite a bit.

But one thing you've already mentioned that I'd like to re-iterate is about double giant bombs. In the first video against the TH9, it definitely had a hog ring defense, but there were no double bombs in that base. In my opinion, a hog base should not only include the inner ring of defenses surrounded by a second ring of non-defense buildings, but it should also include at least 1 set of double bombs - plus it needs to have the appearance of several double bomb locations.

Thanks for your valuable feedback. Totally agreed on the part about the double giant bombs, they are the number one killer for hogs after the update in my opinion.

Anti-hog ring is kinda easy to break once you get the hang of it but predicting where the giant bombs are, will be much harder. Most of the popular anti-hog bases have them placed near wizard towers. If you managed to trigger one set of double giant bombs, the other set is most likely found on the opposite side of the base.

Witches is a must for my hog raids, I bring at least 4 of them (2 in CC). The skeletons help to distract the heroes and they also help to trigger hidden bombs and traps, very useful for mopping up.

P.S. I seldom hog TH9s nowadays, thus most of my videos are TH10s raids. In the next post, I will be sharing a video raid on a anti-hog TH9 by my fellow clan-mate who is also a TH9.

Sharing my fellow clan-mate's hog raid on a anti-hog TH9.

What he did was to use his first wave of hogs to break the defense ring, lured the CC and triggered one set of giant bombs.

Used both his heroes to cleared the other defense buildings while his hogs worked their magic. You should also take note how he deliberately used his BK to activate the other set of giant bombs.

Last but not least, his witches were hugely involved in taking out the enemy's BK and the mopping up.

Hogging a anti-hog TH9 after the update is still very doable in my opinion.

Centralized heroes unless very high leveled, should not be deterring us from hogging. As long as you can trigger the giant bombs and break the defense ring, 3 starring TH9s are not impossible at all. Unlike pre-update, where hoggers just spam hogs and heals spell, post-update hogging requires more plannings in advance.

If you always have the 'run out of time' problem, I will highly recommend you to save a few archers or wizards to help clean up once the hogs have taken down the defenses.

(This step may looks simple but its very crucial. If your WBs fail to break the wall, you may have problem drawing the enemy's AQ out)

Sharing a recent clan war attack where I used hogs plus GoWiPe to 3 stars a TH10.

What I did was to use the standard GoWiPe army to break through and destroy the core while my hogs help to take down remaining defense buildings. Adding the hog riders increased the survival rate of my PEKKAs and heroes when they 'got stuck' inside the core. I feel that this strategy works best against bases that has a big core and is easily breached via a jump spell.

Dear clashers,

I visited my sister clan Nakama CK lately and saw a very nice raid on my fellow clan-mate Cabuizee. He was using a popular base layout which I named the Rocket base. The attacker managed to 3-starred him using a combination of hog riders and a golem.

I especially liked the way he purposely kept several hogs and dispatched them bit by bit to take out the point defenses.

How do you suggest hogging in wars against a centralized queen??? she just turns my hogs to bacon. and these new skeles are super annoying

Firstly, I will say 'pure' hogging is dead nowadays unless the targeted base fulfill certain criteria, i.e: having both infernoes on single mode, very little empty spaces in the bases (= lesser chances of hitting giant bombs) and super crappy heroes position. (at the edges).

After the updates, I had to change my hogging strategy to adapt to the changes, experimenting with different army composition which I called the hybrid hogging. Basically its a army combo that consists of hogs, golem, pekka or witches plus heroes to act as distraction, etc.

Thanks Noel.. IT's just, as a TH9 in Wars I have two options for viable three stars.. hogs or dragons. ANd when the AQ is right in the middle with the town hall, I don't know how to deal with her.

Totally understand your concerns. 2 stars against a TH9 is relatively easy, its always how to get that third star that is tricky.

Like I said earlier, 'pure hogging' is dead unless certain criteria are met. I am not a fan of mass drag attacks, very unpredictable imo. Drags + Loons works great only against certain base designs.

Gowipe is still very much the most reliable ground attacking combo for TH9s against TH9s. You don't need freeze spells to 3 stars a TH9.

Have you try out the Hounds + BM combo? I am not a pro air troops user but some of my clan mates are and 3 stars are very viable using that strategy. I will try to make some videos on such combo soon.

Last but not least, there is the Holowiwi combo that has worked great so far. If you haven seen it, you can check out Hulk's thread. He has many awesome video tutorial on that strategy.

Its been a while since I last posted a hog tutorial. Just changed a new PC lately and took quite some time to sort out all my stuffs.

Today I will like to share a raid by my clan-mate during a recent clan war where he used a GoWiWiPe army to 3 starred a maxed out TH10.

In my opinion, this is the strongest ground army composition currently besides hog riders. I will still be making hog tutorial in the future and a few of those are already in the pipelines. Cheers!!!

Sharing another clan war attack where I used the hybrid hogging combo. This time round, I added more hog riders, reduced the number of Pekkas to 2 and swapped the jump spell for another heal spell.

What I did was to use a modified GoWiPe army to destroy the southern 'teaser' while my hogs took down the core defence buildings like the multi infernos and teslas.

Troop Combination:

20 Hogs, 2 Golems, 2 Pekkas, 5 Wizards, 4 WBs and 2 Barbs.

CC - 2 Witches, 2 Wizards and 3 Barbs.

Spells - 2 Heal, 2 Freeze and 1 Rage.

These attacks are honestly amazing. I've already shared a link with my fellow clan mates and I honestly hope they watch these as it will help them a lot. Only real question is would you attack a base with potential double giant bomb spots in the middle row like in royal river and if so, how would you destroy the double giant bombs?

Hi Dragontamer, thanks for the compliments and sorry for the late reply.

Yes, I do attack potential double giant bombs bases, but that's because most of my attacks are against TH10s. Most TH10s I came across don't have double giant bombs 'ambush' because they usually just set their infernos to multi-mode and centralized their heroes.

Nowadays I seldom do pure hogging raids unless the base is asking for it, (lousy base layout, poor heroes positioning and few or no traps inside the base, etc). I mostly do hybrid hogging, which is basically hogs riders plus other army combo, usually GoWiPe or GoWiWi. Normally I would use my GoWiPe army to trigger the traps and bombs, distract and take out heroes and some core defences before releasing my hogs. Golems and Pekkas has very high hit-points. They are 'immune' to giant bombs and spring traps thus making them the best tankers for your hog riders.

Sharing a recent clan war attack on my base.

The attacker used a very popular strategy called the Lavaloonian that is currently very common in high level raids.

Sadly, my base was not designed to defend well against air assaults and was smashed to pieces. My core defences were completely destroyed by the combo and his maxed heroes just swept through the remaining of my base for the 3 stars..

Not much pro hoggers nowadays, especially after the heroes & giant bombs update. You are really good with them, liked all your videos and tutorials. Hope to see more, will be great if you can add in some commentary. :o

Like I had said earlier, its not easy to do pure hogging raids anymore. I am doing hybrid hogging mostly now, currently learning how to use the lavaloonian combo.

Will definitely be making videos with commentary in future. Cheers.

Some of my clannies which were previously using level 4 hogs can 3 star a maxed TH9.

The key to perfecting the art of hogging a TH9 largely depends on spell timing and placement in my opinion.

Hi Protitans,

From your signature , I am assuming your a TH8. For a TH8, there really ain't many 'strong' attack strategy available. My suggestions will be GoWiPe, Mass Drags or Dragloons and Hog Riders if you are attacking TH8s - TH9s.

You definitely need to get your hog riders up asap if you are considering to use them. You will need at least level 4 piggies and level 5 heal spells in order to be effective against TH8s to mid TH9s,

To be good with them, you need to master the basics in using them:

Step 1 - Always identify possible giant bombs position and try to trigger them early if possible.

Step 2 - Luring and killing the CC troops is a MUST. If you ain't sure you can get a clean lure, its best to skip.

Step 3 - Break the anti-hog ring if there is one, to prevent your hogs from going round the base instead of going core.

Step 4 - Use your heroes (in this case your BK) to distract and take out enemy's heroes (if near the edges) and other defence buildings.

I have shared your youtube channel with my clan mates and they love your videos too. Will you be making gowipe or gowiwi videos in future? Hogs are so hard to use after the updates.
