I just completed my run to Champs as a midling TH9 with level 6 balloons and level 5 minions. I had a slightly different strategy which takes into account what my clan can donate (since not everyone loons 24x7, but everyone has wizards ready to go).
I flew with 24 balloons and 50 minions, and wizards only in the clan castle. The reason I picked wizards was because if it came down to taking down 3 or 4 buildings, I'd end up having to use my aq and bk, which work better with ground based troops.
I didn't always use every balloon but I used them all more often than not, I realize that requesting 6 balloons is a time saving tip, but you're waiting on spells for every raid anyway so cooking 24 balloons off boosted barracks was fine anyway.
I'd boost 2 barracks, spells, and both heroes. I never ever raided without a full army and spells - it just was not worth the risk of losing a raid and potentially 4 hours of work over a missing spell. Using that schedule, I was able to raid every 40 minutes, and by targeting only bases that offered 30+ cups (10 cups for 1*), the cups flew in very fast.
I totally agree that 20/60 requires a fair amount of skill, and having tried it on several bases, I opted to go for a composition that gave me a lot of buffer to make mistakes. Once I got my base selection criteria down pat, I never even came close to losing a raid and often hit as much as 60%, whereas with 20/60 comps, literally every raid was a nail biter.

I tried MYSTCL7's approach, and I agree - against the right bases, it's a killer combination, but the skill and concentration it takes to pulling it off was just too stressful over that many raids...using a slightly more balloons and ground based ccs, I went from winning 8 in 10 with zero margin, to 10 in 10 raids with 5-10% of margin.
The ride was amazing, but I have to admit - I'm enjoying being back down in gold 1 barching till my eyes bleed. I remember on my slide back down - right before I left champs, I found as many champs as my trophy count would allow, and dropped bks on their bases, so some happy clashers there. One point there - when I cracked 3200, champs took the snipe every raid which was way better than getting maxxed gowiped and losing resources.
On the slide - I cooked giant wiz archer wbs, and raided every accessible dark elixir storage I could find - managed to pull in about 80k de on the slide back to crystal 3 in about a day of leisurely raiding.
So yeah - thanks for the post, I intend on heading back when I get a few more defenses up, and although it was "fun", I certainly don't miss those 8 hour kicks off the game and logging back in to seeing smoldering ruins.
