Honestly you should max your wizard towers, and walls. You're going to be at TH9 for a while, and you're just making your stay there longer by not maxing out TH8. Besides you should max TH 8 and do some clan wars at max. Why rush?

Point defense isn't as important as splash, and teslas do huge dmg at lvl 6.
Realistically, you can upgrade whenever you'd like if you really want the challenge and a change of pace lol.. I'd personally max first, especially at TH8. You'll only hurt later on if you don't. :p That's just my opinion though.

I went to th8 with lvl 3 mortars and a lvl 1 mortar, and lvl 1 and 2 wizzie towers (LOL)
I also had mostly lvl 5-6 archer towers and lvl 7 cannons back when I was th7 and went to th8, and I didn't upgrade teslas or walls until th8.

Wizard Towers, Teslas and Air Defenses oh my. Keep plugging away and consider getting some builders. You should have and a lot more gems. Between clearing the map of vegetation and rocks plus the achievements you should have easily got the fourth builder.
