tell him not to rush to the next townhall level, no matter how long it takes, try to max out everything if possible before upgrading ur town hall
Don't bother maxing everything... Collectors and mines can stay pretty low if you can farm enough. I had a few of my collectors level 4 when I reached TH 8 andhad no problem affording any upgrade with farming. Same with storages, and barracks don't have to be maxed if you won't be filling them or making the troops unlocked(unless you like the extra troops you can que).
