ive just gotten to th8 about a week 1/2 ago and its been very difficult find loot to upgrade troops/defense.. i am in the 1300's farming ive found a few 200k bases but that's been very rare .. and ive tried moving to gold 2/1 to see if theres any loot there but nothing was there is there a certain range to be in or is loot just harder to find now?

Going higher is better during active times like weekends and going lower is better during weekdays. Trying to sit around 1500 is a great middle ground for getting a bit of both while maintaining enough flexibility to leave if the loot in any particular range isn't doing well.
The thing to remember about loot is that it isn't constant. It ebbs and flows with the passage of time. You have to be willing to change your range and farming strategies as needed. 1500 is a good place to go first to see if you need to move up or down.
I used to farm at 1400-1999 when I was a TH 8.
I raid in 1600 - 1800 cups range and find good bases to loot.
Gold 3 and gold 2 are good for me. Be patient about next.
Gold 2. Silver 1 just failed for me.
