Pekka herding hints?
Dragon wars appear to be dead. Everybody has centralized AD, upgraded. I have tried a few GoWiPe attacks. The Pekka wanders. The Dragon wanders, but I used it a lot. Had a handle on the wander. A recent GoWiPe attack, I got lucky. Pekkas went to the core. Only a 2 star. The last war, they wandered off. I knew this would be a problem so I released them one by one. The last one headed to the core, a lucky rage spell, and I got 2 star again. What does the Pekka AI look for? Closest building? Hole in wall? I am going to have to learn this going forward.
And Golems. Are they supposed to be a distraction on either side of your main attack? Or are they the spearhead of your main attack? I only have L1 Golems. 30 space each. Would I be better off using 6 L5 Giants instead of a Golem? Until I get the Golems upgraded?
Enquiring minds want to know.

Well, giants can be spring trapped so I would still prefer to use golems (unless you replace a few wizards with giants as well to make up for the giants that may get sprung off the map).
And it depends on how many golems you use. If you use 2 golems, one can be sacrificed as a distraction - but if you're using 1 (which I prefer at TH8), then you'll want it just ahead of your pekkas in order to tank all the single target defenses.

It's up to personal preference on how many golems you use, but I like to use two as the shoulders of when I'm going to attack. The reason is because by having them placed placed at the sides, they attract more point defenses which allows your DPS troops (Wizards/Pekkas) to go minimally unscathed.
The way to do it is usually this way:
|
Wallbreakers (in 2) |
|
| Wizard / Wizard |
Wizard / Wizard |
Wizard / Wizard |
| Golem |
Pekka / Pekka |
Golem |
You deploy the two golems first to attract defenses, then you send out your wizards to clear out the outer buildings. When the outer buildings are destroyed, then you can send wall breakers in to allow your golems to go closer to the core. Once, the outer buildings are cleared and you let your wallbreakers break through a layer of walls or two, then you send in your Pekkas.
The Pekkas have some silly AI, so you basically want to "bait" them to the middle by removing all outer buildings and leaving just buildings for them to path to the middle.
GoWiPe attacks are very organic and thus are more "on the spot" type of attacks where you know when to drop a troop and etc.
Good luck!

Clear side buildings, drop pekka in the middle, use wb.

If the target village has castle in the middle of the base, your troops will be attracted to the troops from the castle, pulling your army to the village's center.
-
Only if they're reasonably close to the cc troops.
