For all those who think Lightning Spell usage is unfair against their DE storage; I'm a level 5 TH player and I get attacked by a level 9 TH player with dragons, happens very often. When I want to attack, I never get a player whose town hall is below level 8 because of my trophy count. If the system could pitch me against unrealistic opponents I don't see what is wrong if someone could rob your DE with a spell. That should answer you "honor" or things on that line.
In my opinion, it is the very nature of a spell to provide "unfair" advantage at a cost (elixir). Freeze Spell: will stop all defenses from firing for a short while while you pummel them to bits and pieces; Jump Spell: they make your walls pointless (even the maxed out walls what is the point of spending all those gold). I bet all those cribbing about Lightning Spells used to rob their DE are using these against their opponents. It would be unfair if you are not given Lightning Spells but someone else have them, but CoC offers everyone the opportunity to use the objects of the game against each other. If someone uses them to steal DE from you who is preventing you from stealing DE from someone else using a spell?
However, like many have indicated earlier, a new kind of defense object can be introduced. It would be great if CoC team could come up with a new defense to counter this attack. May be they can modify the Hidden Tesla to absorb all lightning strikes in a small region (like how healing spell doesn't work around an Inferno Tower), or give a new defense object called "Lightning Rod".
Defense happens when a player is offline (a passive act, not much fun in that), attack is an active act which requires the player to come up with a strategy in 30 seconds to take out all the defenses (both visible and invisible). CoC is a game about raiding, and if the attacker is not given slight advantage over defender I think the game would perish.
