That is the nerf to dragons. OP in groups, but the practical definition of cost-prohibitive. Even attacking higher than recommended in clan wars, you just don't generate the income required to maintain a dragon filled army. And to your clan specifically, tell them to get some sort of money management and attacking skills. Anyone can fight with dragons so long as they know what they're doing off the battlefield. As for th7 defense against dragons, you do the best you can and laugh when either they fail, or someone twice as high as you stoops to attack you.
Dragon attacks seem to be only a thin line of the wars for my clan and in general attacks. Every attack I see nowadays is gowiwa or gowipe. Dragon swarms are just easy for when you farm DE and have a bunch of elixer to spare.
People need to accept there is people that BAM Barch all day and don't really care about resource cost. There is also another group that raids a few times a day and can add in a few CW attacks every other day. They will have trouble fielding any army that doesn't give instant money back to field the next army let alone back to back CW attacks. Dragon nerf threads are more about people not liking the costs of dragons on the return. By the way you don't HAVE to use dragons.
I gotta say, from the past 10 wars I've been in, the OP is not that far from the truth at all. Every clan I have faced so far has consisted of th6, 7, 8, and an occasional 9. For the first 5 wars my clan was in, we had 1 high leveled th10, a couple very high leveled th9, some th8, 7, and 6. As a war would begin, the usual would happen. Some of our lower members attack other lower members, using different strategies like giant wiz healer or balloon minion healer, or even hogs and well placed heal spells. Of course, some failed due to simple error or from a decent base design.
Before these wars, many of the clans we faced had their own smart strategies and welled time spells and whatnot that had a Dragon or 2 incorporated to that, at least when they attacked the th7's and th8's and th9's. But recently, this has quickly died off. All the clans we have faced have used all Dragon strategies that quickly demolish our th7, 8, and some even manage on our th9.
To put into comparison, my base being a decently upgraded th8 with all my air defense maxed and with a good AD positioning, I was ranked 6 in our clan wars. I was 3 starred by their ranked 16, A lvl 48 th7 who used 10 lvl 2 drags, one lvl 3 from his clan, and they used 3 lightning spells on one of my air def, which did survive, but was quickly taken out by a Dragon who strayed off solo. I know, however, my design held up more solid than my previous base because he ended the fight with both dragons below 50% health and with 15 seconds left. My other base didn't kill as many, the enemy had 4 left at the end.
But seriously, the last time I saw someone 3 star someone 10 ranks higher and over 30 levels higher was before the giant bomb update, and my friend was partly to blame for that. But now, it's just blindly spamming 10-11 drags and placing a couple rage spells or lightning spelling 1 AD. That requires almost no thought at all when attacking, the only thought is where to place a rage spell.
Granted, I understand this strategy becomes less effective against th9 and even less against th10, but it's become way too overpowering for being a strategy with little thought needed. Yes, I know, blah blah, it costs a lot of elixir. However, we are in reality people. People will do whatever it takes to win, no matter what the sacrifice is. This sounds too serious for a game, but this is true.
Oh, forgot to mention. The other th7 in my clan all had 2 lvl 5 AD and I made sure they were as anti dragon as I could think of, taking it from all the different anti dragon ideas I've seen online. They have worked, but the ratio is still bad. Every 1:4 attacks that are all drags used against them were 2 stars. Around that ratio at least.
My proposal: drags could have their health decreased by a small amount. They already have the ability to go over walls, no need to make them tankier than they need to be. Yes, I know, now they die faster if they get sidetracked, well now you know of another thing to THINK about when using all drags. Another proposal as alternative can be to have archer towers or some other defense dish out extra damage against dragons. This allows it so that now they have to put even more thought into anti dragon base design for th7 and th8 and for all Dragon-ers who actually need to put even more THOUGHT into their attack.
Just my thoughts though. ( no pun intended there )
Mass drags are the new hog riders people with no skill can 3 star almost any base below th10 😩sigh...gotten to the point where i dont even watch war replays just another dragon raid
Suck it up. It wont change.
