For the past day now I have been trying to design my own TH8 farming base and have had little success. Yesterday I went 2 hours straight and got nothing. Do you guys have any advice for designing a base without copying something else? I am trying to make a base with perfect AD, mortar, and WT triangulation as well as perfect point defense coverage.
There's a website out there that will let you design a mock-up. Then just copy it in your game. That should save you a lot of time.

I am an avid 'original' base designer..
here are my rules.
1) Work with what you got. meaning if you have turrets upgrading then use them for decoys and boot them out of the core, they cant help you much while down.. (except for maybe X-bows with their large HP.. but that is another TH above you so don't worry)
2) don't sweat the small stuff, there is no Perfect base.. every base has its limits and can be beaten. and being TH8, TH9s troops will squash you at will anyhow.. even if you have maxed turrets.
3) Trophy range will more often than not be an indicator of what your needs are. seeing Air attacks? put A/Defs in the core more centralized..
4) Have fun. study replays on def and see what is attacking you and make tweaks.. you can kind of customize your base to fit your range and combat the types of troops attacking you most often. make good use of traps and bombs.
5) don't be afraid to fail, and be willing to experiment. its the only way you will actually learn anything worth while
6) Copy concepts.. see a nice core ? copy it, then change the rest for how you feel will best suit your base.
Read post about funneling 101, and path the troops how you want them to attack. give them what they want, but place traps well.. Mortars covering storages make it hard for Tier 1 troops.. etc..
IME once you get 250-3mil you can get some actual attacking forces to test your build..

I am a new TH8... My base is currently designed in a "spiral." It seems to be mostly effective against Air, and against giants, but it cant hold up to hogs or to a full out "must destroy" assault. It has yet to be 3 starred. But it has been 2 starred by someone who used 3 rage spells, and a full army including Valks and hogs, wizzies and BK.
I centered my TH. Then in a spiral I put a snail trail of intermixed defenses, traps and resources with my weakest stuff on the outer final ring.
I am old fashioned when it comes to designing base.
I first brainstorm and jog down all the ideas on a piece of paper, and asked myself: "What kind of farming base do I want?"
Then, I draw a sketch on that paper, and make improvements from there.
Take a townhall 7 base and find places were you can add more walls i did that to my base and it has worked ok for me
