In my opinion, wars waste resources as all the most powerful raids cost hundreds of thousands of elixir. I don't want to pour 600k elixir for all-dragon every single war to get back 3/4 spent if we are lucky.
I know wars are done for fun, but I have no motivation to do wars when I have to waste 2 hours that could have been spent on farming on waiting for dragons and then to only get a 1 star. In fact, I only have 7 war stars and I am a TH8.

IMO, wars are a waste of time and elixir/DE. The only reason I think you would want to war is because you want to test army comps like GoWiPe or Mass drag. Let's say you get 250K/250K/550 of you win a war. And let's say you use BARCH for farming. If you win the war, you wasted 2 days to get 250K/250K/550 when you could get that in 20 mins using BARCH. BARCH takes 20 mins to train and 30K elixir. GoWiPe takes 100K+ elixir.
It convert the overflowing elixir into gold and DE, what's not to like? Its not like you never ride your shield or go to sleep, cook the dragons while you're at it.
Why in the world do you care about elixir? 90% of the time I'm just wasting elixir as my storages are full. I hate building war armies during farming hours so I try to do it over night or when im busy for an hour or two. Often I'll boost a barrack to help that out as well
Then don't war. Problem solved.
I max out the elixir upgrades at my th pretty fast, and am usually overflowing with elixir, so CW is a nice opportunity to turn that excess elixir into gold and DE. My clan usually wins, so that also contributes to my participation. I always train the troops over night, or attack when I have a shield that I do not want to break/have maxed storages, so it does not impede my farming in any way.
