I don't get this upgrading to get a stronger army so you can loot easier concept. Everything is relative. You go to Th8, Th6 are no longer lucrative to you, so you have to raid TH7 and TH8 with stronger defense, nullifying any advantage of your "stronger army". Also, as others have stated, you will get beat on everyday by well developed TH8 and 9's. Upgrading for a stronger army for loot is a misconception and logical fallacy. There is no such thing. All the defense upgrade at each town hall level were balanced to nullify any upgraded troops at the same town hall: either way you end up grinding. Would you rather grind as a well developed Th7 against weak TH6 or comparable 7, or grind as a preme TH8 against comparable TH7 and tough 8? The answer is obvious.
This. TH7 is a great place to be. If you can resist the urge to immediately get DE troops, you can upgrade/research relatively quickly from raiding profits. I'm at TH7, and with minimal raids, I've always got loot when my next worker comes available. I'd be loaded if I raided often. You should be at least Silver III to find decent loot. What's great is there are so many poor TH6 base designs is that the moment you bust a wall you get all giddy and say with an evil laugh, "All your base are belong to me!"
I usually raid anyone with around 100k of each resource because it's so easy and I use minimal troops, so the ROI (return on investment) is fairly high. You can try and blow your whole load on 200k (each) resources, that is if you can actually get them all, or you can go for a very efficient 100+k (each) raid and get back at it very quickly, without boosting. At one point, I raided 7 times in one hour. And I never use dragons. It's that easy at TH7.
So, truth be told, if you gem your way to TH8, you won't know how to attack a base because you have very little experience at it, and at some point, you will fall flat on your face. Take your time and enjoy the game. :)
Because it is aesthetically pleasing
stronger defence and attacks
Max your walls so that you could proceed to farming for skulls at TH8.
Your walls are not ready. At least all pink to go to TH8.
Theres no absolute to MAXING OUT (see sharonsym's post, search it), but there is a balance point, which is relative to skill and time on the game, that determines when it is more beneficial to go to the next TH vs staying. Most people say max out because otherwise lots of people would just rush. If you think that going to the next TH will bring you more benefit that you will lose out on (not being able to hit TH6, being raided by TH9, more things to upgrade suddenly), go ahead. But without seeing your base, your walls dont make the for a TH8 imo
Sharonsym, exception your rule.

He has been amazing "rushing" his TH.
This is a very good point. OP shouldn't rush to TH8 just to get better troops. And I don't think OP is raiding hard either. He still has gold walls, and he bought his BK.
The main reason people (including myself) rush TH is that they finish the walls too early, leaving them nothing to do but to sit on full storages 24/7. I am actually glad that I rushed to TH8 at lv50 with maxed walls and lv5 BK, but relative low level defenses. Now (a month later) I almost complete my skulls. If I were to stay at TH7 for an extra month, I would have lost interest in this game cuz I can't do nothing.
So to conclude, rushing is only for very active players :)
