I'm about to hit TH9 by tomorrow and sitting on full storage except DE but I have enough to buy an AQ.
Aside from upgrading the laboratory, is it better to start building two xbows (6m for 2) or to upgrade the Clan Castle (5m)?
Is it also great to upgrade the Spell Factory together with the Laboratory?

Generally:
New buildings > upgrades for current buildings.
So x-bows.
Yes ofcouse 2 xbow instant additional defense, specially when they are at level 3 :)
Build all the new buildings first and get those to the same level as the rest, then start upgrading your stuff.
Also, get your lab, camps and spells up quickly.
I find this decision harder than most I to see... Do you win a lot of wars? I'd go with X-Bows. You will get stronger opponents cause they weigh heavy in defense (matchmaking is based mostly on relating Town Hall weapon). I couldnt resist, and wanted those bad boys, so I went with the X-Bows, but I do feel offense is more important than defense.
X-Bows, no question. So what you can fit an extra five archers, a wizard , or a golem in your CC? X-Bows cost more and are +100 DPS.

If you have 5 builders and all available
2 xbows
1x lab
1x camp
1x on queen, than on new defs.
By the time your xbows finish, you can start the castle.
You can do one camp at a time with the same builder.
But once your lab finishes, you will be lacking elixir.
Find a time to upgrade your spell factory before your lab finishes. Skip a few wars if you must.
Xbows. There is no debate. The extra 5 troops in the CC are not worth the 100 dps you gain from getting the xbows.
