Gold/ Elixir per raid

So I recently was reading through the post about how the amount of gold/ elixir able to be stolen is calculated. It made it seem as though it capped at 400k for th 10s and less for the lower levels. I'm town hall level 8 and I recently had someone who was town hall level 9 100% my base and got 500k of both gold an elixer. I had sub 2 million of each... I thought this wasn't possible? Any insight on that?

How much gold/elixer did you have in your collectors? The cap of 400k at th10 is based only on what's in storages.
