It just seems to me that if most people are using these designs that are all on the internet, then everybody knows about them and where the traps are. Wouldn't it be smarter to just be creative and design your own base? Then the enemy wouldn't have the slightest clue where your traps lie.
I got one off of here (the forums), but you can play however you want.
Ideally, yes. But it's much easier for people to simply copy a base you know works, without having to make it yourself, find out that you've got a flaw, gotta redo it... You know where I'm going with this, it's just simpler :)

I think designing your own base is part of the fun of the game.
Any fool can copy a base, but it takes skill to make one that works from scratch.

Seeing this is a strategy game, you would hope that people actually use some thinking to put together a base. But you will find a lot of people just copy bases. Either from ones here on the forums or from youtube. Whether or not someone copies a base does not matter, since this is a game and there is no rules against it. Honestly, if people are going to copy bases I would just stick to the ones here on the forums. They are well-known and have usually been tested. The bases on youtube are more of a gamble because you do not know how the base is. Though, they do look cooler. :P
I love it when people copy bases, makes them easier to raid!
lol no i have been making my own bases from townhall 7 and up, but when I hit townhall 9, i needed something that was tried and true to work while I got my upgrades done, cuz i stared maxing x bows right away, then teslas then all my air defenses. It was a very dark time. Though I am happy i did it. Anyway even though i still made my own bases it was cool to try other people's bases especially when pushing because all i did was farm. Some people are good at making farm bases, some are better at trophy, just how it goes.
first time i got to masters i was using a base i saw someone in my league with who had more defense wins than me. A Lot more. 2nd time i hit masters i used my own base.
For war, i use a version of the cogwheel, for farming i use Brian from cdtp's base when he was th9 and for pushing i have a transformer base i made that is doing quite well, just stacking up battle logs before i present it.
All in all, nothing wrong with copying bases, just dont act like u made them! LoL but yes, it is VERY rewarding to make your own :cool:
Edit: Lastly, that's why i don't agree with threads like 'guide to making farm bases for townhall 8' or whatever. LET CREATIVITY REIGN :)
I love making my own designs, but at some point you have to decide if you're an expert, or need some help. For example the last TH10 base I made, attempted to be anti-GoWiWhatever, I refined it heaps, but ultimately it was flawed and I struggled to get it working. So I copied one that's known to have defended in Champs, to use as a base. the key point is though, I changed a few little things, including some of the traps, and continue to tweak it as I go along.
That's the thing - it's only stupid to copy someone else's base design, if you assume that it's perfect as-is and don't keep refining it as you go along...
Also, in terms of raiding, once you get skilled at your chosen combo(s), it doesn't really matter much if you've seen a design or not, you can size up most bases in about ten seconds, and decide if you can 2-star it or not, regardless of exactly where some of the traps etc are. Sure, seeing a familiar kind of base design can help you decide even faster, but ultimately whenever I'm out raiding at the moment, I usually take 5-10 seconds to skip bases I know are not worth it, and 10-20 seconds to decide on ones that are marginal in terms of risk vs reward; if I chose to attack a base, I've already given enough through to exactly how to deploy my troops in order to give myself the best chance of getting a 2-star win. Even totally original base designs, can be sussed out in terms of risk vs reward, in less than 30 seconds - there are only a few defining factors, really, so you just be sure to look at all four sides, and whether there's an obvious point of entry for your particular army... if in doubt, I just skip. If it's clan wars, well you can choose your army to suit.
I used to copy bases - particularly Pokeball and TTP when i was a fresh TH8. But soon after I realised that too many people used the same base, causing it to be ineffective. That was when i stumbled upon Toby's Labyrinth's thread and decided to give that type of bases a go..

It's definitely more fun to create your own base, seeing it fail/work brings u that satisfaction to improve or modify it even further to better the funcitonality of it.
The only thing common when designing own bases is the standard core. X-core/6x6/9x9 cores etc. Once the core is done, whatever that branches out from it is different. :9 although most of the time one would end up with cookie cutter designs. :rolleyes:
I always think it's a good idea to make your own especially if you suck at it, at least that would make raiding easier. I know I suck at base building but I can't be bothered copying someone else's design, I just find it too tedious to place walls in precisely the right location.
Yeah, you should make your own base because it will be unique. The attackers won't have knowledge of where to attack from and might end up skipping your base entirely.
