Walls - Are they worth it?

I recently maxed out TH8 defences and since then have been working on skulls. Despite being a firm believer in maxing each town hall I have begun to question whether or not walls are worth the time and effort you have invest in maxing them. The first and most obvious issue with walls is how expensive they are, there are 225 walls at TH8 and skulls cost 500K each. That's a total of 112.5M gold too finish them. Whilst ive been farming skulls I've seen a few of my fellow clan mates skip them and move onto TH9 and get a massive head start over me. This made me question again whether or not walls are worth it. Also with the prevalence of loonian and hogs at the highest levels of clash walls are becoming somewhat obsolete. personally i'm not sure that walls are worth the time and effort and I can't see myself getting 250 legos at TH9. I'm interested in what other people think though, are they worth it in your opinion and if so why?

i agree completely OP, i maxed everything in th8 (including king and de troops :p) but never managed to finish walls. I left to th9 with only about 120 skulls finished. It just wasted a lot of builder time to stay back to complete walls, so in your case I would just move along to th9.

You have good points about walls not being worth the time and effort and I agree with those points. But I think high level walls without gemming are the mark of a true farmer. They are a badge of honor. If you are up to the challenge then do it, if you aren't, then don't. But in some cases higher level walls are worth it. When an attacker has run out of wallbreakers and is only using ground troops, the extra hp they provide can be the difference. But maybe the biggest reason I do them is for the looks. There isn't a much better feeling in the game then zooming out on your base and saying dang, my base looks good. It almost makes all the grinding worth to me. Hope this helped!! Get max TH8 walls. Losing out on TH7 loot at TH9 sucks. I didn't do it and it took me so much longer at TH9. Now I'm working my way through Legos with maxed defenses, and won't go to 10 without all 250.

I see your point. But walls are some of the best defenses in the game against ground troops. Plus there is an intimidation factor in them too.

I assume you have all defensive research complete in TH8. Then make sure you have all your research done. At the same time you are doing research, you can do your wall upgrades. At this point, many advance to TH9, while a few stay to complete the walls.

I would complete level 8 walls in TH8 before advancing. Because once you have level 8 walls, you don't have to upgrade any walls until you are in TH10 and after other defensive buildings are done. If you don't upgrade to level 8 now, you will always have problem on upgrading def vs upgrading walls, all the way into TH10.

I don't find hogs to be a problem in Crystal/Master leagues. You will find plenty of Level 6 Giants and Golems as tanks. The walls will help tremendously.

They are worth it if you intend to be competitive. If you are happy sitting in gold everyday or getting pushed around in war by smart players then you don't need to get them too high.

I'm planning to max my defenses for TH8 before moving to TH9 but not walls. It's too annoying and time consuming to do those skulls. Makes the game not fun anymore and tbh it is losing its fun at TH8.

Like many things in the game it depends on your play style. I watch the higher level TH members on my clan during wars and GoWiPe and GoWiWi are very popular tactics. Walls will really help defend those types of attacks.

Hogs have faded in popularity since they buffed the giant bombs. You do have a point about Loonion, I have seen that used in both wars and raiding.

The intimidation factor works on me. When I'm looking for a village to raid one of my factors in picking a target is the level of walls. We've all seen those TH 9 villages with level 6 or even 5 walls and I will attack those even if they have the xbow.

I don't think you need to finish walls at th8, OP. I didn't; I went the way your clanmates did and got a head start at th9 after I finished all my defenses and elixir troop upgrades. Great decision, IMO. I eventually finished all my skulls, my Queen is going to level 15 at the moment and I've started legoes.

Meanwhile, a lot of my clanmates, who were ahead of me at th8, have just recently come up to th9 and are playing catch-up.
