Well think of it this way, When you use a lightning on a collector that is full and it does damage, The loot would go nowhere. You would just be taking a loss of loot.

And where does the loot go when a dragon throws fire breath on a gold storage?

Where does the loot go when a minion drops some dark goo on an elixir storage?

Or when a wizard throws balls of fire at a collector?

Hell by your logic, we shouldnt get loot unless a goblin takes it as he's the only one that carries a satchel to store it in?!

Yeah like the fireball would melt the gold. Lightning is part of the game, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em. Also I learnt my lesson lightning dark elixir, 500 dark elixir to barbarian king level 9 upgrade, guy who I lightning spelled their dark elixir revenges me. Stole 2k dark elixir and puts me back like a day.
