Spells used to be created using gold. They also did not always have the penalty and took hours to create. To prevent gold from being hordes in the spell factory the penalty was born just like it was for buildings. Never got switched back when spells went from gold to elixir late last year.
TBH I never understood that. Some suggest it's because you could store elixir, but in reality that's not true. Spells will finish because you can't que up extra spells so you really can't store elxir, when you can actually store elixir in barracks and dark barracks. I would love a SC employee to respond to this because it really makes no sense at all. It also makes no sense to why you can que extra troops but not spells.
If it has something to do with resources being hoarded so that no one can loot them, shouldn't they make it where troops cannot be queued up beyond the limit of what your army camps can hold?
Spells cannot be queued up beyond the amount of spells you can hold.
If not, shouldn't this be fixed so that you can cancel a spell if you hit the wrong spell once or hit a spell too many times?
Should be fixed, people actually use it now to dump elixir instead of hoard gold.
Can anyone come up with a good reason why a lvl 5 PEKKA that costs 50,000 elixir can be refunded for 100% if canceled, but a lvl 1 lightning spell that costs 15,000 elixir can only be refunded for 50% if canceled?
Yet the PEKKA can be queued up in all 4 barracks even when all army camps are full, thus taking up elixir that could be looted, but the lightning spell can't be queued up beyond what you can hold.
Why?
As Coathanger said, spells used to be created using gold instead of elixir and took literally hours to make (1hour for a single lightning spell). To prevent gold being stored like other buildings they changed it to elixir and never removed the loot penalty.
Maybe because for elixir it is easier to overload the barracks accidentally than the spell factory? I don't know myself :p
You should get like 75% back. Not 100 though. Since if you make a mistake you have to pay the price.
Maybe people might use the Spell Factory to hide some Elixir away from people raiding their village.
