It honestly doesnt make sense considering walls are instant upgrades. Its not like the builder comes out his hut to smack a wall for a couple hours. I hope Supercell sees this through and changes it. It doesnt make sense.

You are in essence upgrading, regardless of how long it takes,
It may seem unfair at times but many can go out with one builder to be used on walls.
Walls doesn't have any time for upgrading. If people were able to upgrade walls without builders, they can get away with a lot of loot just by upgrading some walls when someone is trying to revenge that person. Why you complaining? Just play the game.
A long time ago you could upgrade walls without builders. sC changed it to prevent people from dumping gold in their walls before logging off every time.
Not really, i mean it is true, but most of the time you only have loot when you need to save up for an upgrade For example an archer tower for 5.2 mil of gold, is there a builder available or not doesn't change the fact you need to have those gold there for the upgrade. It is not like you can upgrade the walls, then downgrade it and get your gold back to upgrade your archer tower. Then, it would be insane to find any loot.
However, with builder requires to upgrade walls, it does increase the amount of loot available for raiding like if you only need 3 mil of gold for an upgrade and you have 6 mil in your full storage, then you have that extra 3 mil available for raid.
I guess one way to fix this is add a upgrade time to wall. I think a minute per level sounds good.

Lv6 requires 6
Jokes aside, it helps us get more gold too since other people can't upgrade their walls so I'm fine with it

Many say that people dump gold into walls.. At higher levels walls cost 1/3/4m gold a pop. When people have 8m gold, they are most likely saving for an expensive upgrade. If they aren't, then obviously they are going to upgrade walls. Dumping loot into walls will only happen if you are gaining gold solely for upgrading walls, or your builders are busy, so regardless if walls took no builders, only people with all 5 builders going or those upgrading walls primarily will do this when they log off, therefore there is no point in walls costing a builder. By saying "Oh people will dump gold into walls before thy log off," you are saying someone will save 7.5m for a lvl 3 inferno tower, dump 6m gold for 2 lvl 10 walls, be left with 1.5m gold. Umm no they won't. By that logic people could buy all the flags and P.E.K.K.A. statue, sell, then re-buy whenever they are logging off. The logic that Super Cell employs that walls not costing a builder will hurt the (already broken) Clash economy is superfluous and ridiculous. It's another one of their corporate schemes to get us to gem things or sit on max gold. It's kinda sad honestly. Super Cell is a great company and I take nothing away from this amazing game; it's just that sometimes their methods are all about money. Before you say it; yes, I know this is a freemium game. I also know they make more than enough revenue to not purposely make some features so unnecessary like walls requiring a builder or 7 day upgrades for minimum stats on the buffed (NERFED) heroes. Sorry for my rant.
What happen if I took 300k in Gold from you and then I used it to upgrade my walls. You try to revenge me, but all the gold is gone because I got away with just upgrading walls. It's the same thing as hiding your Elixir in the Spell Factory. Why do you think they have a deduction when you try removing the spells?
true, but that is if you are not saving to upgrade your defend so you can afford to dump all your gold after each and every single raid. However, the scenario you only mention will not happen if you need to save up for 5 mil to get your x inferno or upgrade your defend. Most of the time, if i am not upgrading anything requires gold, i just don't raid for gold. Why make myself a bigger target with more loot available.
And many people do have all 5 builders working. That is why they want walls not to cost a builder
Also, while this may be true that high level players won't upgrade wall to hide their gold, I'm currently a TH9 but I still occasionally find myself having too much gold from raiding, gold that could have gone to walls. If I have more than 24 hours between completed builders, I have more then enough time to get the gold needed for an upgrade which would have meant some walls could be upgraded. But since I can't, it allows others to loot more
To build a wall you need a BUILDer , thats why it calls so. I wonder why do we need a builder to uograde our heroes, ♥♥♥ our heroes diingk with them while training?
Theres a higher chance SC will have the builder come out and "smack the wall for a couple hours" then reverting it back, be glad it doesn't have an upgrade time and upgrade walls between buildings.. I've all skulls and a few legos got them fine with a free builder and still maxed th 8 before hitting th 9 eventually youll have all your builders completely free to focus on your walls and heros :)
It is quite debatable, really. For a town hall 8 and below, none of the buildings requires more than half of their max resource field (6m), and considering how fast people loot, getting 3 mil gold can be done in matter of hours. And after filling all of their builders, what do they do? Walls.
The only people who will stack high amounts of resources, are th9 and th10s, because it's expensive.
If let's say it's implemented, for players in town hall 8 and below, gold will become ridiculously hard to find in the long term, because everyone would be putting their excess gold in walls, and staying online to get their next builder going. Apart from hitting inactive players, which is not feasible in the long term, how would it be a conducive and fun environment for people to play clash of clans, and get resources, when there is no resources to grab?
You need supply to fill the demands. Where will supply come from? Only inactive bases? Active players will be pumping walls and th9 and th10 will be a dream on for th8 and below.
