New defensive structure: Thorn Shield
Hello.
I'm SkyMage1001. I hang around these forums a bit. This is my concept of a new defensive structure: the Thorn Shield! It is primarily and offensive AoE tower: however, possesses a special ability which makes it an effective support structure too.

*I did not include gold cost / training time, because I don't feel it changes how the tower works. Neither does the reload cost: however, I included it to show it does need to be reloaded.

Attack Speed: 1 second
The Thorn Shield's attack.
The Thorn Shield has a relatively unique attack. It throws a boomerang which will return if either of the following situations are met:
- It reaches its maximum range
- It reaches its maximum hit cap. If this is the situation, the boomerang continues for 1 extra range regardless of how far it travels.
Whenever the boomerang hits an enemy, it builds the Thorn Shield's Thorn Meter.
The Thorn Shield's ability
As foreshadowed previously, damaging an enemy builds up the Thorn Meter.
When the Thorn Meter maxes out, a shield is given to all nearby buildings that are FULLY IN RANGE (ie the whole structure is in range). The shield is also activated when the Thorn Shield dies: however, buffs will be lowered based on how full the Thorn meter is.
A shielded building gains the following buffs:
- Increased health;
- Increased damage;
- Decreased damage taken;
- Melee units attacking it will also take damage.

These values are decreased if the Thorn Meter is not full upon activation of the ability. The strength of the shield is decreased based on the percentage of how empty the meter is in this situation.
Analysis
Offense Stance
The Offence Stance features relatively powerful standard attacks and increased damage from the ability. Its ability is best utilised when centralized inside core defenses: this maximizes the effect of the DPS buff. The Thorn Shield is very powerful if there are a lot of troops, due to the fast charging of its ability. On the flip side, if there are few troops to attack or they are spaced, the ability will charge very slowly, making the Thorn Shield a much weaker structure.
Defense Stance
In Defense Stance, the Thorn Shield is a lot more reliant on its ability, due to its low damage. However, due to its fast stacking and larger range, the Defense Stance Thorn Shield doesn't need to be centralized in the very center. Instead, it is fairly effective is placed in the middle of a lot of buildings, not necessarily in the centre, where it can charge its ability.
Defense vs Offense
Due to the high-damaging nature of defenses currently, Defense Stance will probably benefit a base more. It allows the high-damaging defenses to stay alive longer, which is probably more important due to the nature of Freeze Spells.
