Hi so before the 1 gem boosts finished my friend upgraded all his collectors then cancelled them and boosted them again for 1 gem and for a week too. I was just wondering if this is allowed.

Why not? The collectors are not max level plus he looses 50% of the cost - Without calculating (as I don't know which level his collectors are) I would say the benefit is minor (unless its DE drills).
You get more gold/elixir from looting anyways..... get out there and do some attacks, instead of being a 'rat' 😃
That said - I don't think it was intended that way :)
Did this to my drill this morning by accident as the upgrade to Level 3 finished last night while I was sleeping, but yeah it worked :P
All my collectors are max though, apart from like 4 so couldn't be asked to do it with them too.
Did that to my DE drill L3. 3M upgrade, cancel and get back 1.5M
But yeah, boost for another week for my queen upgrade :)
