Yes, they are. Hog riders are now part of the arsenal and no longer THE arsenal. Mix in 10 hog riders into your army and they will will assist your assault nicely.
Mine are still level 1 though. They help a lot, yes, but I don't like them, hehe.
Gemmed my hogs from 2 to 4 and there amazing and I can 3 star most th 8's and premie th 9's when farming as that's the only thing I use them for.
But dont use them as your whole army as giant bombs can ruin your whole attack if you don't test for them
Can make about a mil an hour if I'm using hog and healer no boosting
Im still a fan of the Hogs and still using it for farming. Just be careful in choosing the type of bases you attack.
Upgrading the hogs to level 5 is still worth it.
Still worth it, but no longer *THEEE* top priority.
definately worth it! of all the dex troops, still the best, or arguably tied with minis. there are a few strats around that use hogs, check out HoLoWiWi as example.
even post upgrade they're still worth having, only, as has been said, a pure hog-army can be dicey.

I can still 3 star TH 8s and some early TH 9s in CW if you know how to do it right. :)
I started mixing mine with some dragons and some wizards in War battles. I use 12 level 5 hogs in groups of 3 in the beginning of the raid to take out the 4 air defenses then I unleash 8 level 3 dragons in the area closest to the th. I will use 3 heal and 1 rage spell (all maxed) on the dragons. I'll get about 50-75% that way and then I put in the heroes and the level 5 wiz (5 I made and the rest from my cc) to clean up. I've been averaging about 80-100% this way on War villages that offer between 315 and 350k in each type of loot.
