The best present I could ever get is a CC full of L5-6 archers - for offense or defense.
I am slowly liking L5 goblins too, thanks to someone in my clan's love for them.

Archers? Really?
They are one of the most lightweight troops in the game, in fact, I don't even know why there are "archer only" clans
I prefer something else like balloons
They can do splash damage to archers
But i have to go with healers
THEY HEAL BUILDINGS
As a th6 I enjoy balloons in my cc. Most of the attacks on this lvl are barbs/goblins/giants and archers. Splash damage kill them all pretty fast
Have you seen how quickly balloons get shot down by attacking archers? ;)
Archers are great in the CC, remember, the troops that run out are attacking the attacking troops solely, they're not worried about anything else. Meanwhile the attacking troops little brains are on the job, concentrating on your defences - suddenly they're trapped by your CC troops - upper-hand to CC
Giants take forever to get there, Barbs are just dumb and have no range, goblins .. useless [for defence]... and try getting dragons or even wizards from your clan on a regular basis ... you'll be doing a lot of begging. So, archers FTW.
All it takes is 1-2 hits to kill an archer by Tier 1 troops and of course Lightning spell wipes out all of them entirely. They are NOT the ideal troop for Trophy hunters especially since they get constantly raided. Once a CC troop dies in defense battle, they never come back.
Also, I dare anyone to drop 4 Lightnings on a CC Dragon as it laughs at how pathetic your attempt was to kill it. Dragons, Wizards and Valks are good for defending against multiple raids.
Ah, but as you say, 1-2 hits ... that's for each one. Don't you see? the point of the CC is not to wipe out the incoming attack - it's to slow them up. While the attacking troops are firing at your CC troops, they're distracted, they're wasting time, and some of them will also die, weakening the attack. No matter how small, it's a weakening. And nobody said you have to use all Archers, mix them up with some giants and or barbs, perfect. Level 4+ from TH7 on
And if they use spells to clear the CC, well, they're using up their spells aren't they?
Lightning brews for only an hour, so if you're having trouble with CC troops distracting your troops, just drop it. That's the whole purpose of spells in the first place, to get you out of the pinch whenever you're getting mauled at as you enter the core of the enemy's base.
Assuming you have a level 3 healer , she can heal a max of 50 HP/sec to a building and I don't think that splashes either. Most buildings have over 500 HP and max storages are close to 2000...... So actually, a Healer is one of the WORST units you can have in your CC defensivewise.
