I don't agree that Supercell is trying to unduly influence us to buy diamonds. There's some interesting research about psychological tricks of the trade to do that:

It seems to me that Supercell is extremely decent about it. I've been playing Hayday for many months now. In the beginning I did buy diamonds, because I was impatient and I didn't know better, but the longer I play, the less I need to. In fact, my last purchases were only to show appreciation of the diamond confirm button and I spent it on luxury items, like another slot in the netmaker and on decoration. In fact, I spend more real money on coffee to use a WiFi than to buy diamonds .
I can't confirm that there are less diamonds to be found in the mine and the chests, either. I don't count, but I still find more diamonds than I spend.
I think what is regarded as undue pressure to buy diamonds is in fact just another point in the game where you have to make decisions. Neither the boats nor the truck orders work in the way that you can just fill all of them. You need to decide if it's a worthwile option and how best to spend your limited ressources. Nobody could fill all truck orders and all his own boat orders and all his friends' flagged crates. Most of us stopped filling sugar and dairy boats, for example. Town has just added another of those decision points. In the beginning, we were feeding town customers like crazy and realized, after some days, that we run out of premium products. So now, some of us hire Tom more often and some of us stop giving the townies all they want and restrict them to the cheaper food, particularly during boat events.
The boat orders during this event or the last are not necessarily harder then they were, only our ressources are already stressed by town and the influence of town on the paper. And having this current boat event right after the truck event was quite a challenge, though, no question. I, too, got rather underwhelming prizes at the last event, but this event seems fine to me (pick axes, purple and gold vouchers so far :)). Maybe, after all the presents the town customers bring, we're becoming harder to please by those prizes?
